Default question about gearing

Shiv stated on another thread:

"Newsflash: The STi that I saw dyno'd made substantially more power than the EVO. And not suprisingly, it's also a bit quicker and faster in the 1/4 mile, despite having to shift into 5th gear well before the trap. Compared to the STi, power output isn't the EVO's strong point. But that should be old news by now."

Now my question is what gear is the evo in when it hits the end of the 1/4?

If we have to go through one extra gear that add's how long to our 1/4 eta do you think?

I mean if it takes us half a second to change gears that is still .5 off our time.. and that means that if the we are still hitting 13.0 to 13.3 according to reports then that must be some beast to be able to make up the time of the shift.

Anyone following my logic lol?

uhm.. if it takes half a second to change gears that dosen't mean it's taking half a second off your 1/4 mile time.

The Evo is in 4th gear at the end of the 1/4. Evolutionm.net folks (with mods) were complaining that it was hurting their traps.

As far as the STi goes:
Based on a few calculations and what Shiv said about shifting "into 5th well before the trap"...looks like the trap speeds could be:

7000 rpm shift at top of 4th ~99 mph
puts you at around 5000 rpm in 5th...
So, if you hit
5200 rpm - 102 mph
5300 rpm - 104 mph
5400 rpm - 106 mph

The STi's 5th is basically the same ratio as the WRX's 4th (.971 vs .972).

Those are some pretty good trap speeds.

hmmm

not trying to be a prick here

but i don't think STi and Evo were meant for 1/4 mile at the first place..

this is very trivial info for me personally
