Well its about new tire time. And me having no money I think I'm going to see about getting some credit at Discount or somewhere. Rather than just getting tires, I'm thinking I need some rims too. But I was wondering if anyone knows if you roll the fenders on a GC8 how wide of 17" rims/tires you could fit under the fender without any rub on corners. Also with maybe a 1" lowering too.
this whole "rolling the fenders" is new to me.

I dont think you can fit more than a 225 series tire under the fenders. I just rolled my fenders TODAY (ghetto style) so my 225/50/16's wont rub anymore, and I dont think any larger of tire will fit without bending the fender outwards quite a bit.
Wheel width isnt really that relevent, but 7.5" is about optimum for 225 series tires, 8" would work too. |

Offset is a factor.
I have rota subsero's 17" on my 2001 RS, wrapped with 215/45-17's Summitomo's, and they rubbed with the car being lowered 1", requiring the fenders to be rolled. |

Yes, My fenders are rolled. The Sub zero's have a 48mm off set, and are a 17"x 7.5" wheel. They barely rubbed. Just removing the rubber liner on the wheel well might work, however, I went all out and also rolled the fenders. Oh, this is only on the rear wheels, the fronts clear fine.

Some info on professional fender rolling:
http://www.bmwdiy.info/fender-rolling/index.html http://www.robsaudiworld.com/fender.htm Some info on the quick cheap way to roll your fenders. I would recomend a plastic vacumm pipe(the long shop vac pipes) instead of a baseball bat. Whatever you use, make sure it is soft and won't cause the paint to chip. http://www.quickhonda.net/fenderRolling.htm |

Thanks GQ for the info. Lucky for me I have a few friends in the body work buisness. SO when they fix my left rear quarter panel I'm going to ask them to do the fenders. I need to save money now that I have a job again though.

I've been finding it interesting with most of you that have rubbing issues it's always in the rear and not in the front. For me it is the opposite.
I have the car lowered about 30mm. I just bought the 17x7 Superleggera's with an offset of +48 with continental conti extreme tires 215-45-17 and they rub slightly when the nose of the car goes down quite a bit. But no rubbing in the rear. This tire has quite a large tread area and this is not helping. I'm just wondering if someone as had the front rolled and how they dealed with the plastic liner. Was it trimmed back? |
