Question Does anybody not like the STi wheels?

I'm thinking I like the looks of the standard STi wheel a lot better than the BBS STi Type C wheels we are getting. Yes I know they are forged and I know the benefits forged wheels offer...but if the rest of the world gets the standard wheels why are we forced to pay more for a car to get upgraded wheels that IMHO don't look good?

According to the info over at rallispec.com those wheels cost about $1200 more than the standard wheels, that would have put the STi under 30K!!!

Because the Evo comes with lightweight forged wheels standard. I like the look of the BBS wheels.

I think they look like the south end of a north bound donkey.

BUT If I got a STi it would be getting some cheap normal rims for daily driving and the stockers would be the race rims, so its a moot point for me, if not better even.

If you think about it, for a car that costs $31,000 that comes with factory BBS wheels and expensive tires, your getting alot of car for the money.

If I were to buy an STi and it did come with the 5 spoke split wheels, id probably replace those anyways. The way I look at it is Subaru gave me a deal on a set of sweet rims and tires.

I think they look alright. Don't know why we got them though, the EVO wheels are actually cast. Maybe just another thing they wanted to out do Mitsu with.

I'd prefer the European version... but I think they look okay.

Default the rims we get..

Funny a thread started on this topic.. I was going to start a thread entitled, who letting go of their rims to get some volks or something.. Personally I think the rims are too "spokey". .. I prefer the 5-6 spoke design better.. I want to let the rims go, but don't know what 17 inchers will go over the brembo's.. I want to stay 17 inch so I could keep the overall ride and balance of the car in check, and keep the great tires we get... Anyhow, 18's look better so they may be my future. I would've much rathered the jdm split spokes. Beggers aren't choosers, I'm just happy we have the car. Plus, I thought the evo rims looked weak until I saw them in person.. There's nothing like seeing some brembo's behind some decent wheels. We'll see what will happen.

they aren't bad, but i'm most likely gonna take em off and sell them and replace them with some advans, volks, or prodrives. however if i can't find anything i like that will fit over the brembos the stockers will be fine. i'm just happy to be getting an sti, so the wheels aren't a first priority issue.

I don't think that this is a valid calculation. Those wheels might cost $800/piece to a consumer, but I would guess that somebody (or multiple people...) make a healthy amount of profit on that price. I doubt that Subaru pays nearly as much for them. It would be interesting to know how much they cost to Subaru, but they'll never tell us.

The numbers won't be as extreme, but there are consumer products that consumers pay $20 for, and the production price is less than $0.50.

I don't think that you are paying extra for the BBS wheels. In fact, I think the price of the STi would have been exactly the same with the JDM wheels instead. Except it may have cost $1000 more due to gas guzzler tax.

And I'll repeat my offer - I've got a full set of JDM STi wheels w/their 040 rubber. I'll gladly pay to ship them to the States (from Japan) in exchange for somebodies BBS wheels. Silver would be a bonus for me!

Cheers,

I prefer the 17" optional BBS wheels that they used to have for the WRX. Don't care for the STI BBS wheels. I'll probably get P1's anyways.

Definitely prefer the standard split 5 spoke over the BBS. Wonder how much the BBS w/ tires would fetch in a few months? Probably swap out with something else depending on how much I could get for them.

Silver goes much better with Nordic Blue - plus the Boss doesn't like gold that much, but likes silver quite a bit.

Paul, I see that you too are willing to trade the JDM STI wheels like myself..

I think the JDM STI wheels looks great but they are on the heavy side and the RE040 tires are not as grippy but not bad in the wet. Do you know what mfg makes the STI wheels? Rays?

I dont like the looks alot, but they are one of the few wheels that come standard on a car I WOULDNT replace I mean, lightweight, 17"x7.5" with the right offset and everything... Might have to gun for a different rims with a different offset for wider tires though, but we dont know yet

Too bad the silver wheels are actually "Silver" not Gun Metal.

Ahh good call, I forgot we lost the radio because of a "weight" issue, maybe the wheels are part of that weight saving plan.

Still think they are ugly!

Yeah, they're ugly, but I'll probably stay with them for a while. Plus I've always noticed that cars (350Z, Evo, etc) look better in person than online and in mags, so chances are when I see the STi in person, it will be all good

Maybe I missed it, but how much does each rim weigh?

They are 18lbs each without tires and so how can they be heavy when P1's and P7's weigh 21-22lbs each. Both STI rims mentioned here are made by BBS but the split spoke ones aren't forged like the optional upgraded wheels available for the STI. The RE40's have one of the softest compounds making them grippy in the dry but very bad in the rain.
