Question Borla header price too good to be true?

has anybody purchased the Borla header kit from "performance center" Header and gaskets/studs etc for around $250.00.

from "where", exactly?

the price could be low, because those headers are older version, say ver 3, the latest generation is 4 now

i dunno, i'd much rather order from a trusted SUBARU vendor like iSR, where i know exactly what i'm getting, and doesn't want to tarnish their name on this board to make a few bucks on leftover 3rd gen headers, if indeed that is the case. Osgood brings up a good point, you could end up with something prone to cracking, and would be a potential headache, even though borla would warranty it. is shipping included? by the time you throw shipping on there, i suspect you'd be very close to iSR's $295/shipped price.

and from my experience, the only vendor that actually includes all the extra hardware is WRXtuner.com...it's a BIG job to source all that out, and some fly-by-night generic (i.e. all compacts) vendor is probably not going to go to that trouble.

I was thinking the same thing, must be Gen 3 headers that a vendor picked up cheap. The website is. www.performancecenter.com 800-369-6063 Price started out at 310.00 then dropped to 263.49 now its "on sale" for 237.14. It these are true 4th gen headers, I have just found a birthday present for my wife!

If you like the product and price call them and ask what generation it is for yourself, don't take our word...get it in writing [e-mail] if you are still skeptical.

***Note how long their site says it will take to get the headers - IMO that's not old inventory laying around.
Also ask if the product will be dropped shipped directly to you from Borla - that will pretty much resolve the which Generation issue.

These folks sell enough performance parts monthly they can afford to move a larger quantity at a lower price.

BTW, I also suspect it cost Borla less than $200 to pump out these headers, most of the process is automated and not labor intensive.

Summit Racing has had the Borlas for $250 for a while then recently raised it to $295/shipped. Unless your studs are rusted the only thing you should need are gaskets and I got some from a dealership for $14. I asked Borla if the new pricing was Gen3 that had been remanufactured and they said no they are all gen4 and that all of their approved vendors have been asked not to sell the gen1,2, &3 headers.

Thanks all for your replys. I know I could have just called them, but they could have told me anything too! My son (impostor) has the borla header and cat-back on his 95L and sounds great (even his mom likes it) hence the question.

Default pix of TWE header/hi-flo cat installation

what went ON the car last nite was:

1 TWE Header
1 TWE hi-flo cat
1 Brullen 2.25" Quiet cat-back

For now, i'm gonna post these pix, gimme a few days for my butt dyno to recalibrate and for me to speak to TWE on some issues before I post it. Review of customer service, installation, and performance (as best as I can) will be available by this weekend.

Don

p.s. thanks to Ryan for these pix. (rpone605)

But Horse Power for Horse Power, how does it compare to an MRT header back system?

I know that the durability isn't a real comparison but what about Power?

Is it just me, or does that header not look anything like the one they had on their web site? The 180 bends look horrible!

Interested to hear the review, though.

Cool loking setup. That collector arrangement is sweet, but I
though one of the big killers was bends. It was the first thing
that caught my eye on the stock pipe, and the TWE follows the
stock routing. All that being said, one shouldn't judge by the
looks alone. The proof will be in the smile factor you get when
driving. Like this

Cool install Don.

even before doing a ECU reset (I'm waiting for my CEL fix to come in)... my Butt Dyno says its faster than my previous set-up.. which was an MRT replica that I had a local exhaust shop weld up for me. It feels actually... slower... between like.. 1K and 2K. Like pulling away from a light.. it sorta bogs in a way. Above 2K though... things start getting alll good. =) 2K and 3K is about where it was before. betweek 3K and 4K there's definitely more torque. It pulls more cleanly through that area like uphill and with junk in my car. After 4K.. it pulls hard straight to redline. Harder than before, according to my butt-dyno. Whether its biased or not in hopes of justiying such a large purchase, I dunno. BUt I THINK its faster. THere's no dyno around here though. The "scientific test" that I do is that I have one route I drive to school every morning. And there's this one light I launch away from to keep me awake in school until lunch. I'm curious to see how fast I can get to the end of the bridge. Before, i've never been able to hit redline in 2nd by the end of it. Now, I must shift into 3rd. And this is with my larger winter tires. (205/50-16 ---> 195/65-15)

All in all.. would I buy it again? Yes. TWE has great customer service, even thought they current/did have some teething problems that all new shops do, but hopefully they have most of the kinks worked out. The headers are STS legal, turboable, ceramic coated, and, in my opinion, they do work.

Don

p.s. I have made suggestions to tWE on how they can improve it. i'll wait till they reply before I post.
