Default What car would you buy for 3 to 4k?

A friend is buying a car for 3 to 4k; he wants a reliable, decently powered car. Suggestions?

I was going to say Dodge Daytona Shelby, but then you said reliable.

For 3k you can pick up a Dodge daytona 2.2 turbo, Good fun...bad repair bills.

This is the same question I had to deal with a few months ago.

I bought a 1990 Miata.

A b13 sentra!!

Or an se-r if you can find one. They are good cars.

You can easily get them in that price range and they are very reliable cars. Had mine for over a year and I give it hell and have not had 1 problem with it...

why doesn't he also specify 0-60 in under 5 seconds, heated seats, convertible top, italian or german, and guaranteed to attract women for nothing more than 2500. that doesn't seem so unreasonable

Seriously... His main concern was safety though (referring to airbags)

Tell him he's just screwed then cause theres no way in hell he is going to be happy with that narrow of a guideline. That or he'll be looking for so long he could have bought a different car and saved up more cash in the meantime.

Wrecked again!

Default S13 240sx

You can find a really nice 1991-93 240sx for that money. I just sold a '93 for $2500. 1989-1994 were the s13 chassis, with the '91-93 having the better DOHC engine. 1994's were only convertibles in the U.S.

Decent power, great handling, very well built, RWD cars. Mine had 130k miles and felt newer than my GF's new cavalier.

A lot of these cars have lower miles than mine, usually around 90k.

Good luck,
Brandt

Just saw the airbag part. 1995 and newer 240sx have airbags.

I would buy a Fiero. Sorry, though, no airbags. 3-4k would get a fairly low mileage V6 Fiero in good condition

96' civic ex. $3500-4000

This is what I drive while I save up for my WRX.

Its a decent car. Great reliability.. I have 122k miles have not had any significant problems with it. Both power windows went on me thats the only thing I've had to have fixed other than normal wear and tear (brakes, muffler, tires, etc)

It has teh VTEC powazz but it still pretty damn slow.

It gets really good gas mileage.. I get 30MPG city driving

It handles really well.. its alot of fun on twisty backroads.

ps. i dont need to hear any civic ricer jokes.. my car is stock and I know its slow.. SO LAY OFF!!

If he wants a stylish and reliable used car I suggest getting a late 80s, early 90s BMW. I did and I love my car! After doing some research I found that you can drive a BMW forever as long as you change the oil and do the usual upkeep, those cars just don't quit. My b/f liked mine so much he began looking for one of his own to fix up, (he drives a WRX), and he found some really nice cars on E-Bay. The main thing with those cars is delivery, but other than that, there are some very sweet deals to be had.

I would suggest:

90-94 Eclipse GSX/Talon TSi AWD

91-94 Sentra SE-R

91-? Galant VR-4

92-95 Civic Hatch

90-94 Integra LS or GS-R

S13 240 SX

90's Corrado

87-93 Mustang GT or Cobra

Or if you're lucky enough to find one in good condition, a Mitsu Starion or Chrysler Conquest.

Can I say 92 and newer SHO either 3.0L with mtx or 3.2L atx, the mtx being the better. They have all the toys, air bags, ac, abs, 220Hp, all wheel disc, yamaha built motor(japan engine good) run high 14s stock. And they easly are found at the price your friend wants to pay.
