Default Blue Smoke ?????

i have a EJ22T with a IHI VF22 turbo. I just finished changing my vavlue cover gaskets and i swicthed to royal purple oil. And i also installed a down pipe with no cat`s. And now the turbo wont go above 3psi and i have blue smoke coming from my car. What would cause this? Could it be the Hel tech program? Or just a sideeffect of the Royal Purple oil? or the down pipe or something?

Blue smoke = oil leaking in to combustion chamber.

Check for a kinked/disconnected/plugged hose to your valve cover vents, PCV, and crankcase vent.

Ok Please correct me if i am wrong i am sort of confused. So what should look for as being the problem? Are you saying that thiers nothing wrong with the turbo? And it could be just a cloged line? If so what lines should i look at?
Sorry for reaskingthe same questions but i am just trying to make sure i know what have to do.

first, lets clarify something. how much "blue-smoke" are we talking?

if its a serious amount (when you start your car you cant let it run to long before the garage is full) then your turbo is shot, go out and buy a new one the seal has blown and the oil is turning to smoke.

pull the turbo out of the car and see if you can see any oil lines

if its not that much then it could still be a blow seal but it could also be a loose oil line connection somewhere or a cracked, cut oil line somewhere, stripped bolt etc

OK, Thanks for the breakdown. But i have another question (sorry). If it is the turbo. What would cause a turbo to be shot like that?

Just some thoughts

how old is the turbo (how many miles on it?) how much boost has it been running has it been abused?

any or all of the above could cause the failure of the seal inside the turbo...if the rubber blows the turbo goes...

You can service IHI turbos but not by yourself and a machine shop would charge you so much that it would negate the benefits of rebuilding versus buying a new turbo. IHI turbos are made to be replaced thats why they are so cheap

Oh, on second read of your original post I kinda missed the part about the valvecover gaskets -if you were messy enough you could be burning alot of oil that spilled on the block...does the smoke come fro the enginebay or the tailpipe?

So how much would a ihi VF22 cost? To be honest i dont know where the smoke is coming from cause it is at the shop and thats where the lines and everything were changed. They just told me about the blue smoke today and i am trying to see what it could mean. Casue i am on a very limited budget. But the catch is that this is my everyday car.

IIRC the vf-22 is the cheapest of all the vf series turbos a new one can be had from a vendor on here for $800ish shipped.

Looks as though you will be picking up a stock wrx turbo.. Their is one in the Privates for $150 at least that will hold you over for a bit.

Imprezd~

P.S. VF22's are known for their notorious premature wear.
