Question Crank pulley bolt size?

Hey everyone,

My car was feeling 'funny' when i took it down the street on my way to work. So I drove it back into my garage. Popped the hood to find the crank pulley wobbling like mad.
Does anyone know what size the crank pulley bolt is? I tried a few sockets but none would fit, up to 19mm.
I want to tighten it then bring it to my mech. But I can't invest in a whole set of sockets. I'd like to just buy one on my way home tonight.

Thanks,
giulio

IIRC its 22MM. And what do you mean by the car "felt" funny? I'm just curious just in case my crank bolt ever comes loose.

Ya it is 22mm I did mine on the weekend, but I had to take my rad fans out to get at it. Not a big deal took me like 35 min to do it

I was just wondering why you felt that the car was running odd because I installed a lightweight crank pulley about 2000 miles ago, and my car seems to be running fine, and the belts are all turning, but it has a very slight wobble to it. Is this normal?

Thanks everyone for the replies! I'll be stopping at the autopartstore on the way home tonight.

"Funny how? Funny like a clown?"
Yesturday on the way to work I kept getting the CE light. Mostly steady, every now and then blinking.
Thinking "probably just the quick change in temperature or vacuum line loose or o2 wire loose or alternator wire loose" I continued on to work at full throttle, then reset the ecu when I got to there.
At lunch I took it out for a spin and sure enough the CEL came back on. I brought the car to my mech to pull the code. $40 to tell me "multiple misfires in cylinders 1 and 2, but everything looks normal". I shrugged it off because the engine was runngin really well, thinking it was an overactive knock sensor or something.

This morning I leave for work and before the end of the block there was extra vibration. If I didn't have STi mounts, or didnt have the car for 5 years, I probably would not have even noticed. I pulled a Uy and coasted it back into my driveway. Thats when I popped the hood and saw the pulley bobbing like an old IBM typewriter head.
It feels almost like a piston not firing. Except not as violent. The crank pulley is a harmonic balancer. With it unbalanced, the motor shakes a lot more.

It's the third pulley on that car.
1st pulley - from the factory
2nd pulley - UR lightened / underdrive
3rd pulley - back to stock for s/c (at 75,000 miles)
I suppose it wasn't put on very well. Maybe the extra strain from the S/C had something to do with it also. at 101,000 miles now.

Tonight I will toighten it and in the morning bring it to my mech for a 'real' tightening (lock-tite).

Joe,
I can't tell from here. Is it really wobbling or is it an illusion? The logo on a spinning pulley tricks the eye sometimes. If in doubt bring it to a mech.

Thanks again,
giulio

My Perrin crank pulley wobbles but it's not noticeable. What is noticeable is my 22 mm bolt wobbling quite a bit. Help?
