Default Any bad exp. with ECU reflash base maps?

To preface: I understand that it is optimal to have your engine management tuned specifically for your car, but not all of us have easy access to tuners. That said:

Has anyone out there had problems with any of the "base maps" used with the various ECU reflashing services? I ask because I heard a rumour from a mechanic that this is sometimes the case and would like to hear from anyone who has had a bad experience.

I had an "off the shelf" map put in. A tuner did it, but since I haven't finalized my mods he suggested that I save the dyno tune until that point. I'm happy with mine. I've got 2,000 miles on the vehicle since the reflash. I'm happy with the power gain, my mileage improved slightly and my car runs as smoothly if not more smoothly than before the reflash. I think any competent shop is going to map the untuned map conservatively. So you may leave a few hp on the table, but you will be safe. The only caveat being that your mods are pretty standard and match the parameters of the reflash "stage" and/or you've discussed the mods with the tuner and they have a map from a similar car.

I think you'll be happy and safe.

Well, I can now say that the base map I got ROCKS!

The ECUTeck reflash is really amazing. I highly recommend it.

I've had the sub-zero from Vishnu since Feb. 03 and it's been great. Significantly more power, and would you believe, slightly improved milage. Always 21-22 prior and consistantly 22-23 after.

No driveability problems at all.
