I hate to say it but my best recorded mpg was 15.9, worst somewhere around 12.
I thought it was strange but consider the facts: -All congested city driving. Barely any highway. -I drive mostly on hills (Hudson Valley). You loose a lot of mpg going up hill all the time, but you really don't gain it back going down because of the traffic, stop lights, and speed limmit. -A lot of short trips. Some idleing. -Winter gas -Automatic tranny -Heavy foot |

i never keep track of milage...i dont want to know what i am getting...if i wanted to i wouldve gotten a true fuel efficient car or even a hybrid electric/gas car...i lay on the throttle to much so keeping a record is not worth it to me

but keeping track of it tells you the health and status of your car......your car could be slowly consuming more gas and you not even notice it, because of some other failure |

I have an 03 wrx, my average is 17mpg,
it started higher when I got the car around 19-20mpg. Should I be concerned? The car is stock. |

After filling up reset your trip meter and when it's time to fill up again, write down how many miles are on the trip meter and divide that by 15.9 (capacity of the wrx fuel tank)

Zero trip meter. Drive a lot. Fill your tank and note of the exact amount of gas added. Divide the number of miles on your trip meter by the gallons added. ie. 250miles/10gallons = 25MPG |

how are you guys/gals driving that you're able to average such low mileage? street light to street light race? all city driving?
if you're driving "normally" and is averaging some bad mileage, i would bring it to the dealerships attention |

Or fill the tank, tie a piece of string to the bumper, drive in a straight line until you run out of gas, cut the string into 15.9 equal pieces, and measure them. If you don't have that much string, you can just drive until you run out of gas & then add 1 fluid ounce, measure the string, and multiply by 128. This way is much cheaper, but less accurate. And accuracy counts, people. (seriously, I get about 20. Best was about 28 on a long trip) |
