Question air conditioner compressor cycling

Hey,

I have a question about the cycling time of the a/c compressor. I have owned many cars but it seems that the a/c on my 03 wrx cycles on and off too often, like about once every 12 to 15 seconds. The air is pretty cold, but the cycling sometimes affects part throttle slow city driving. ( it makes the engine surge a bit). Also, if I run the a/c during moderate acceleration, I can tell when the compressor cycles on and off. I know that cycling is how the thing operates, but who else here thinks that 12-15 seconds is too often? Anyone else have this issue? I have already done the ground wire mod and it seems to have smoothed out the car alot, but what can be done about the a/c?

Thanks,
Frank

It's normal, there are a few threads floating around in a couple of forums about it. Supposedly there is a service bulletin on the AC for older production WRXs but that wouldn't apply to your 03 anyway. You can take it to the dealer if it concerns you but they will tell you it is designed to do that.
