Default WTB: Decent wearing hi perf tire

I bought the So-3's last summer, but had to sell my wheels/tires to start my business... now this summer I would like to buy new tires, but was concerned after my purchase last year that the SO-3's wear so quickly (15-20K miles expected).

I'm wondering what ppl around here might recommend as a great street tire which will last a reasonable mileage. I'm willing to pay the price, but I just want them not to wear too quickly.

Thank you!

I got somewhere around 33k miles out of a set of Firestone Firehawk SZ50EPs. They're one of the more expensive ultra high performance tires, as expensive as some of the max performance tires out there, but I think the tire wear makes them worth it. You can ask around in the NESIC Forum, I don't baby my car, so 33k is pretty impressive.

I now have Toyo T1-S tires, and although I don't think they'll last quite as long, they're doing pretty well. They've also seen more track time than the SZ50EP's did, which obviously doesn't help wear much. Call the guys at www.aimtire.com for the best prices I found for Toyos.

U mean Azenis? If so they're not all season but sure as hell perform very well in dry and wet. Too bad their tread wear only rate at 200.

I recommend the firestones like Patrick Oslen. I 've had them on for just a short time, but I researched for a month or two before buying. I looked at the rating on tirerack.com, and read alot about them here ( mainly from Olsen). I know this may not seem like much, but they do have a treadwear rating of 340(in 215/45/17) which I find to be pretty high for a ultra high performance tires. They aren't cheap, but so far I'm happy with them. I suggest you look into them,

Bryan

No, he means what he said. Falken makes other tires besides the Azenis. Ziex is their all-season line of tires, such as the ZE-502 (older model), and the ZE-512 (newer model). They aren't as sticky as Azenis in the dry, but you can drive with them in light snow and still have decent dry weather performance.

BluSuby, I didn't know you had SZ50EP's. Copycat. Or maybe you got yours first.

Yeah, pretty impressive treadwear rating for a UHP tire.

Actually I think I remember recommending these to you in a thread that you had like this one. I've had mine since 4/02

I currently run Falken FK451's and couldn't be happier. They will give you 30k miles. They are great in water and dry......even had em in the snow a couple times and I managed to stay off the walls.....FWD..no WRX yet.

Toyo makes a great tire as well. I have run the FZ4's and teh T1's. Both great tires and from my experience toyo's last longer than they say they will. I went an easy 30k with my fz4's and I beat the hell out of those tires. Including the foolish and fun acts of ebrake parking and uturns.
