I've asked around even to shops where they put on tires (They said it would be fine) but some of my friends are doubting it so I thought I would ask here too..... I got a buddie of mine that is giving me for free his 4* 235/45-17" tires off his old M5 that he sold a while ago, it has about 60% tread left.... I would like to get the Rota SDR's which are 17" x 7.5"... what do you guys think? Risky?

The tires will fit on the wheels, but they are a little too big for the Subarus.
The overall diameter will be 1.8% larger than stock. So, your gearing will be taller, and speedometer/odometer will be underreporting by such. They shouldn't rub if your wheels have stock or close to stock offset. -Ray |

Most people don't have any problems running 225 tires with a 45-48 offset on a sedan. Your tires will be another 2-5mm closer to the fender as those. Plus, your tires are larger, about 3-5mm taller than most people, so you just might see some rub in the rear.
Anyways, sometimes the only to find out is to try putting them on your car. Personally, I probably won't do it, but it's your call. And are they even good/expensive tires to start with? |

I'd suggest you go 235/40-17 instead for the 45 series.

Hey...he's getting FREE tires....off an M5. M5 = BMW = good tires.
I say go for it...if it rubs, you might be able to roll the fenders a little, or live with it. Personally I'd put free tires on and try it...i mean, what, you lose 35-40$ mounting and balancing. |

They'll also make your gearing even worse.. just so you know. Your speedo will be quite off as well.
Speedo reading will be off by 1.8% so when you're speedo reads 60mph, you're actually doing 61.1 mph. Do as you please, I'd strongly suggest you don't though. |
