Let the mud dry completely hard, and then brush it out with a stiff hairbrush and vaccuum it off. If he wasn't grinding his feet into the carpet, that should take it completely out. If not, a bit of regular old carpet cleaner can take care of what is left. DO NOT use any kind of wet cleaner until you have most of it gone- it will only make things worse!

If it comes down to the wet cleaner, dried mud removed, Tuff Stuff works well. I also like the grooved rubber floor mats. Take out, shake, hose down and air dry.

For extra mats, try Bruce Titus Auto Group: https://ssl.autocenter.net/webparts/acatalog/Online_Catalog_Subaru_Parts_360.html

They don't have the 2.5RS embroidered mats listed online, but you can call them and place an order: 1-877-473-6200

Milliken makes a carpet/upholstery cleaner called "Capture". Get the soil release/PreMist in the spray bottle from any store that sells QUALITY carpet.

It works great! The second day after I got my car my kid got a big black footprint on my front seat. I misted it with this stuff, then used a small brush over the misted area, and it came right off. I've gotten some baaad stuff off my carpet with this stuff. You use a light mist and brush the stain away. It's kind of a dry cleaning solution and they sell a powder you with with the mist for carpets. However, you just need the mist for touchups and small areas like car upholstery.
