Default dissapearing oil

I purchased my car back in february(48k). I switched it to synthetic oil in march(49k). About 3 weeks ago i checked the oil and it was about half way between L & F. Yesterday I checked it again and the dip stick was bone dry(50k). I had not noticed any oil spots at my house or at my work. I freaked out because i did not know how long I had been driving with no oil in mY freakin' car(somewhere between 1 day and 3 weeks).
I was driving to dallas for a wedding and i was in a hurry so i put three quarts of oil in the car. After the weeding i checked my oil and it was way overfilled, so when i got home I emptied out aT least a quart of oil via the oil filter( I removed and emptied the filter like 4 times, in between starting the car to fill up the filter again).
Anyone know why my oil disappeared like it did? Also, how much damage could have been done to the engine while driving it under these conditions. I figure the engine had at least 2 quarts in it during the time in question. I think the capacity is 4.2 quarts.

The stick will be "bone dry" at (somebody correct me on a Subie) 1.5 quarts down, not empty. Overfilling by 1.5 quarts has the potential to do more damage than 1.5 quarts low (unless you are autocrossing and starving your oil pump). Sometimes switching oils causes a car to "use oil". Did you switch to a much lighter weight?

Oh, and repeatedly emptying a filter like that had your car dry-starting every time. Don't do that anymore.

All i know is that the old owner was using dino oil. I switched to 10-30 valvoline synthetic.

So you think it was ok to drive with only 2 quarts for the time i did(maybe 3 weeks)? I guess i may have done more damage dry starting the 3-4 times i did.

ps: these moderators have no rhyme or reason to their moving of posts.

Actually they moved it cause your car is N/A and it's a technical related question so they moved it to the appropriate forum that's all.

car is listed to the left. I thinkpost should stay in the General Forum because all cars use oil, whether stock, WRX, turbo, RS, etc.

Actually they used to have a "General Technical" forum for items that don't really fit in the other "Technical" forums but it was removed for some reason!?
