Question Question about Scooby Newbie vs Scooby Specialist

I've seen some Scooby Newbie with 200 posts and I've Scooby with 150 posts--

Is this time based, post based?

If its post based, a fruit posting 600 times asking if 87 octane is making his car knock will be a Specialist.

Originally, you only needed 65 posts to hit specialist. At some point back a few months ago, that was changed to 555 posts. If you had the specialist title before that time, it stuck. So you could have 66 posts and be a specialist, whereas if you registered now, you'd have to hit 555.

This number by no means represents the knowledge about cars. It simple tells us how long a certain member have been with us.

Obviously it doesn't mean what we know about cars because I know nothing! All I know is that my 2.5RS is front wheel drive and has a V8

Well, I have a Legacy with the new AWD I think that stands for Anti-Wheelie Device. This being a rear wheel drive car with 400hp. (the dealer told me so) It works great! I have yet to pop a wheelie.:P
555 is referencing Flying 555 I think the old sponser of the Soob 97-98?? WRC cars when McRae won the championships.

It's just a sponsor for the team. The tobacco company.
It doesn't sponsor SWRT anymore anyway, so how about something lower, 227 as US WRX's HP?
280 as STi's HP?

Anyways...

Correct me if I am wrong, but I think they are still sponsored by the tobacco company, it's just that with tobacco advertising banned on TV especially in Europe, they can't really show the numbers, or the brand itself.. the same reason the Jordan F1 team has Buzzin Hornets instead of Benson & Hedges, McLaren has Mika or David..lol..instead of West. I could be wrong though.

That I didn't know. I thought Mitsubishi Lancer is now sponsored by Marbolo that's why it has the new red and white painting. But SWRT dosn't have 555 on it because it doesn't sponsor anymore.

I remember reading that 555 doesn't sponsor SWRT anymore on SCC....
I could be wrong.

Question

Imprezer-
If a member's status tell us how long he or she has been here, what's the 'registered date' for?
If you're taking a poll, I'd say ditch the member status AND the post count. It would only piss off the people who think it actually means something, and everyone would stop trying to hit the magic '555' by posting for the sake of posting.

I like the post count too, but can't we have a median rank other than just "Newbie" and "Specialist".....kinda like a military ranks? I dunno, don't care either way really, just an idea.

Who cares, really, and I mean that in the kindest way. Specialist, newbie, everybody gets on well. Some newbies know more than some specialists, and vice versa.

I dunno, maybe I'd feel different if I didn't have 530 posts, and was a busy weekend away from hitting "specialist," but I tend not to fret about designations like that. The moderators dig it, and it is their playground.

So get those posts up, BottomFeeder!

I do think that the current system does cause us to post just to get that number up, like I'm doing right now, because the two names are so very different. If lot's of post are what the power's that be want that's what they will get, if not.... then a change may be in order.

I like the idea of a middle ranking or something sounds kinda cool. Yes there are those that tend to know more or less and the post count makes no diff. It is cool to see how long somebody has been with the club, I wish that I had found I-club sooner. But at least I am here now.
Peace

Actually, I was partly kidding. I think that, while there are some people who artificially boost their post numbers with what are essentially "me, toos" to as many threads as they can, most are in keeping with the spirit of this board.

When I came here I was a newbie indeed. I knew how to drive the hell out of my Legacy GT, but nothing about it. Over the time I've been here, I now know about intakes, exhausts, tire choices for a particular season, how our cars work, suspension, and other stuff, just through the act of reading, posting, and asking questions.

When I achieve the rank of "specialist," I suppose it will have been earned but more importantly, and I think in keeping with the grand design, the route that I took to reach "specialist" level also denotes the knowledge that I have acquired through being a part of iClub (someone can start humming the National Anthem any time now... ).

I think that's cool, and probably how the original system was devised. I don't think anyone envisioned that there would be those who would seek "specialist" rank simply by posting like mad.

Just my .02.
