Default What parts are needed for Headgasket change?

WHat other thean the head gaskets do I need for this change. My buddy who is a subaru mechanic said that since the heads are coming off the cam timing needs to be timed correctly as well as the belts need to be changed over too. He aslo said I was in need of main seals and other camshaft seals that I did not know of. I know that exhaust manifold and intake manifold gaskets need to be changed to but what other misc parts do i need, i.e. seals, bearings and so forth.

thank you.

John

The gasket itself is the only thing that HAS to be changed. But its a good idea to replace the rest of the gaskets while its apart. If the engine has high miles you may want to have the valve seals replaced also. For my laser Mitsubishi makes a nice kit that has everything you would want to replace when you do the headgasket. Its called the upper engine rebuild kit or something like that. Maybe Subaru has something similar? Check with your local dealers parts department.

Shouldn't you use new head bolts too?
