Angry crap what happened to my engine?

ok so i was driving my car around on friday night in 3rd gear and all of the sudden this loud metal clanking sound came from my car and it lost all power. i pulled over and looked for any visible damage but found none. so i try to start it again and theres this loud clank when i try to turn it over and the engine wont start. the cylinder was replaced once and i'm guessing the repair guys f*d something up. could a valve have broken inside? any thoughts? 01 2.5 RS with 4,000 miles

nah it's not seized, and the timing belt still looks ok, i took it to the dealership and they're checking it out...they think the timing belt may have something to do with it though, might have slipped a couple teeth or something. ugh.

sounds what happend to my 00rs a couple months ago. does it still start up? did you hear a tapping or knocking sound? it could be a bad rod or bent valve. hope you sill have your 60k warrantee. i had to replace the whole shortblock assembly, luckily it was free.

uh no it wont start, when i try it makes a metal clanking sounding noise...not good. when it broke it sounded like that machine gun sound you can make with your mouth, just a lot less cool sounding. hopefully it's covered under the warranty though. wont find out until they figure out what's wrong with it.

just got word back from the dealer... dun dun dun.....he told me the tensioner bolt for the timing belt broke, which f'd up my timing which f'd up my valves, so now they have to pull apart the heads and check to see what valves have been f'd. yippee. about 1500 bucks in labor, not including parts. check your tensioner bolts!

yea it has a salvage title due to theft. a-holes. so this tensioner bolt...uhm yea i dunno where it is yet i'll find out when i get the car back. i'm sure it's by the flywheel that holds the tension on it. i'm just gonna make sure they arent trying to sell me on some shat like exhaust bearings or piston return springs.

The tensioner bolt

Wouldn't be near the front of the engine, near the timing belt? Maybe it holds in the tensioner for the timing belt?

Edit: read above about waranty info.

Honestly, if it won't turn over a full rotation and keep going, something big is stopping it, and a valve is most likely not it. Pull the motor and start looking into it because it's not going to be a simple problem unless you consider replacing the short block simple.
