Does anyone know where to get one of these and will they just drop in a BE? Would love to talk to a shop that has done this work so I could find out how much this all costs?
thx!

TT will not just drop in but it can be done.
It takes a lot though.I've got a mechanic in town that is willing and able to do it on my car, I just need the coin. |

Emailed Rallispec a few months ago about the viability of various upgrades: 2.5T, WRX engine, or turbo kit. Here was his response:
Thanks for your email. All 3 options are viable...however, the motor swap provides better long term reliability and improved driveability. The costs for each option are as follows: 1. Turbo charge the 2.5l (Ludespeed, AVO, etc) Approx. $700-1000 install cost but varies with kit and what additional upgrade parts are necessary. Cost of kits vary but for a decent setup complete upgraded clutch and exhaust (which really are essential) you should expect to pay between $3000 and $5000. 2. Swap a WRX motor $6500 for all parts & labor...used engine with light rebuild and complete inspection to ensure it is in excellent condition. 3. Wait for the new 2.5l turbo motors and swap that in. :-) Won't be cheap...guesstimating around $20000 for all the necessary parts new and probably $12000 or more for used parts which will likely be snapped up very quickly. Plus another $2500 in labor to do the work. Thanks. Dave RalliSpec There you have it. Seems like the WRX swap will be the best bet once my current engine gets tired. BTW, my car is only 20 months old and already has 42K miles. I do not abuse this car and 95% of the mileage is highway commuting. What is the typical lifespan of eth EJ25? I am religious about maintenance and have the dealer doing all the work, including oil changes. |

Well I am thinking that with some head work that I am having done on my heads before I bolt on a turbo I will get more torque and HP + better reliability. For around $1200 for the head work and another $4500 for the turbo plus basic bolt-on’s it should be a lot more than the WRX or TT, and less headache. I was thinking that the swap and the TT would be more than going the route I am planning just wanted to hear someone else tell me so too. =)
