Default VF24 info and a first impression review

I just installed this turbo this weekend and so far I LOVE IT

Instal went pretty smoothly, I had to bend the top coolant line down just a hair to clear the massive TXS v2 TMIC and had to buy a slightly longer coolant hose for the top(cost a whopping 2$)
I replaced all the gaskets associated with it, and I did the entire job from up top (other than losening /tightening the bottom dp bolt)
I went from this
UTEC stage 3 94 octane map
TMIC version2
Full catless stealthback with prodrive muffler
BPM flex up pipe
Perrin short ram
GFB pulleys

to the same setup with a VF24, back to running the stage 3 base map.
Running the turbo at 17PSI, I am still rich according to UTEC logs, but am hitting 100% IDC's at 5500 RPM so STI injectors/walbro are next on the list.
At least I am still 100% knock free
Power is AWESOME, even running the same boost. 1rst gear is now a pathetic joke that I am done with almost as fast as I can shift out of it, and 2nd goes by seemingly as fast as 1rst used to.
Where you used to be able to feel the strong pull taper off at 5k, it seems to pull even harder than it did up to 5k. The redline seems too low now, as opposed to too high/just right.
On the highway, if I downshift to 4rth and nail it, I am at 100MPH so fast its scary.
As far as lag/spoolup, I cant feel ANY difference from stock. Maybe its a hair later, but a good dyno tune (that is coming later this summer) will get it spinning sooner

Hey Dave, I did the same thing this weekend. The install was easy and I actually reused the one coolant line, even though it really should be a hair longer.

I made some slight boost changes so I'm running about 18.4 peak down to about 16.8 redline. I also used the upper end of the stage 4 fuel map in my modified for STi injectors stage 3 map.

I also have the luxury of the use of a dyno test cell quality a/f sensor that is in a test pipe that sticks into my tailpipe (thanks 2000vfr800). With my slightly modified stage 3 map I was hitting 10:1 above ~ 5000 rpm. With the new fuel map I haven't been able to check my ration however my egt's haven't gone above 1510 F in a redline 4th gear pull. Oh and you don't want to trust the Utec's rich reading. The stock front O2 (which the Utec uses) is not a wideband and CANNOT be used to tune the car under boost.

Here is a part of a log from yesterday:

As you can see I touch the lower 90's in my IDCs but definitely never 100's. My boost map is still a work in progress but when I get that all hammered out I'll post a new log.

Also if you want the map I'm running just let me know once you get the injectors and pump installed.

Yes, 1st gear goes by so quickly now, I banged the limiter a couple times last night in the rain. Sideways is safer than a 4th gear pull though.

Previous mods:
Turbo XS Stage 3 (catless, only TXS parts)
Turbo XS Shorty Intake
Samco MAF Hose
STi Injectors (ran these on the stage 3 for margin of safety)
Walbro 255 fuel pump
and....Launch Control

Have fun, hope this helps and feel free to ask any questions.

I'm about to go down the same road.
I'll have a V7 STi TMIC, 06 WRX injectors, 05 STi fuel pump, and a vf24.
A Freon tune and I'll be golden.
