Lightbulb Everyone with STi suspension takeoffs please read.

Ok we have danced around this in a couple of threads but I thought I would try to pin down the STi takeoff info in one place. Specifically on the suggestion of darnblatt and jagcars, I wanted to try to see if we could collaborate a bit and figure out the paint codes on the STi springs.

Here's some background on the New Age STi models:

PART NUMBERS
JDM MY 01

GDB(a) STi
Right Front strut - 20310FE000
Left Front strut - 20310FE010
Right Rear strut - 20360FE000
Left Rear strut - 20360FE010
Front spring - 20330FE130 [pink above, orange and blue below]
Rear spring - 20380FE670 [yellow above, 2 orange below][non-tapered, gray insulators at the top]

GDB(a) STi RA
Right Front strut - 20310FE000
Left Front strut - 20310FE010
Right Rear strut - 20360FE000
Left Rear strut - 20360FE010
Front spring - 20330FE330 [pink above, purple and green below]
Rear spring - 20380FE690 [yellow above, orange and green below][non-tapered, gray insulators at the bottom]

GGB(a) STi wagon
Right Front strut - 20310FE020
Left Front strut - 20310FE030
Right Rear strut - 20360FE020
Left Rear strut - 20360FE030
Front spring - 20330FE130 [pink above, orange and blue below]
Rear spring - 20380FE680 [yellow above, orange and red below][non-tapered, gray insulators at the top]

JDM MY 02

GDB(b) STi
Right Front strut - 20310FE300
Left Front strut - 20310FE310
Right Rear strut - 20360FE300
Left Rear strut - 20360FE310
Front spring - 20330FE130 [pink above, orange and blue below]
Rear spring - 20380FE670 [yellow above, 2 orange below][non-tapered, gray insulators at the top]

GDB(b) STi RA spec C
Right Front strut - 20310FE300
Left Front strut - 20310FE310
Right Rear strut - 20360FE300
Left Rear strut - 20360FE310
Front spring - 20330FE340 [tent: pink above, blue and green below]
Rear spring - 20380FE790 [tent: 2 yellow above, 2 green below][non-tapered, blue insulators at the top]

GGB(b) STi wagon
Right Front strut - 20310FE320
Left Front strut - 20310FE330
Right Rear strut - 20360FE020
Left Rear strut - 20360FE030
Front spring - 20330FE130 [pink above, orange and blue below]
Rear spring - 20380FE680 [yellow above, orange and red below][non-tapered, gray insulators at the top]

If you wade through all the part numbers you will find the following things about the A and B revisions:

A and B revision STis(sedans and wagons) used essentially the same struts and springs in both years based on model. Example: A and B revisions of the wagon used the same parts. [The revision B PNs for front and rear struts are listed as alternatives for Rev A vehicles in the part books, theyre interchangeable. These number differences can help identify which year your takeoffs are from tho.]

The STi RA(a) and RA spec C(b) race-prepped models use the same struts as the standard STi sedans but use unique springs front and rear for each year.

JDM MY 03

GDB(c) STi
Right Front strut - 20310FE300
Left Front strut - 20310FE310
Right Rear strut - 20360FE840
Left Rear strut - 20360FE850
Front spring - unknown [3rd coil down, 2 purple dots]
Rear spring - unknown [3rd coil down, 2 green dots][tapered, gray insulators at the bottom]

GDB(c) STi spec C
Right Front strut - 20310FE300
Left Front strut - 20310FE310
Right Rear strut - 20360FE840
Left Rear strut - 20360FE850
Front spring - unknown
Rear spring - unknown

The C revision appears to carry through the same front struts as used on A and B revision. However the rear struts, springs and topmounts are quite a bit different from the previous models. The paint codes for the C revision models seem to be of a different format as well and probably shouldnt be compared to revisions A and B.

JDM MY 04 - tentative

GDB(d) STi
Right Front strut - 20311FE300
Left Front strut - 20311FE310
Right Rear strut - 20360FE840
Left Rear strut - 20360FE850
Front spring - unknown [2nd coil down, 2 purple dots]
Rear spring - unknown [3rd coil down, 2 green dots][tapered, gray insulators at the bottom]

GDB(d) STi spec C
Right Front strut - 20311FE300
Left Front strut - 20311FE310
Right Rear strut - 20360FE840
Left Rear strut - 20360FE850
Front spring - unknown
Rear spring - unknown

edit: put in paint codes we are pretty much positive of now.

I've got the Rev B sedan struts on my wagon. I've got some pictures of the struts and springs that I think will let me see any paint on them but I won't be back to my apartment to take a look at the pics until Sunday night. If those pictures don't help then I'll try to get a good look at the springs themselves as soon as I can. I've got to take the fronts off to put on camber/caster plates sometime in the near future anyways.

Does anyone know if the Subaru USA SPT strut/spring sets have the paint dots on the springs? This may help us figure out what a combo of dots means.

Good point driggity, there are a lot of posts that seem to say the SPT is one of the JDM race-prep versions. If they have paint codes that would be a big help. Of course a lot of aftermarket parts dont have assembly markers on them.

Maybe someone with the SPT kit can post?

Default wagon SPT springs

The wagon springs from my SPT kit have the following:

front: part#20330FE130 with orange, blue, and pink dots (bottom left, bottom right, top = paint dot locations)

rear: part#20380FE680 with orange, red, and yellow dots

The dots point you to the top of the coil so you don't install them upside down. It looks like the fronts have a pink dot at the top and the rears have a yellow one. So, I wonder what the other colors mean? Spring rates?

I bought a set of STi V7 (RA, or RA spec C... not sure) takeoff springs a few months ago from buymeasti. He had pics up of these but they are not there anymore. Any how I checked out the color codes last night. And I have the pink dot second coil, then blue and green dots on the third coil on the front. And the rear just looks like a yellow dot on the third coil? They have the blue plastic guards rather than the gray. Can any one help me to confirm that these are trully STi takeoffs? Thanks,

OK those are the STi wagon springs(either A or B revision.) Lemme try your paint codes from the top down.

Front
Pink [2nd coil]
Orange Blue [3rd coil]

Rear
Yellow [3rd coil]
Orange Red [4th coil]

Is that correct? Were the PNs on the springs or on the spring boxes? I couldnt find the PNs on the springs of my takeoffs.

Do you have your strut PNs too?

Thanks

John I am kinda getting a handle on them but yours is confusing me a bit.

On the fronts is there any chance the blue dot on the third coil is PURPLE instead of blue. Could you take a pic and PM me or e-mail it to me.

And on the rear coils are you sure there are no other dots on the fourth coil below the yellow dot???? Look real closely sometimes the majority of the paint can be rubbed off from shipping on the outside of the spring.

We're getting somewhere with this I think.

Ill take a closer look tonight most likely it is purple and green. Also I have heard that with the V7 takeoffs the blue guard that wraps around the coil means RA spec C opposed to the gray meaning RA. Is this true? Ill try and get a picture of these. thanks.

I wish I knew? If that was the difference that would be great. I have yet to see a set with the blue guards. I will tell you unlike what may have been previously stated, the majority of the takeoffs I have seen are from "regular" STis, not race-prepped models. I am thinking you and dbarnblatt have the race-prepped versions right now.

If you can forward a pic of the fronts and rears that would be great.

Ok I finally found a picture its at the bottom of this link...

http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...+black+springs

It doesn't clear everthing up but these are the springs I have with the blue band on the top of the springs. You can't make out the color codes though???

As I said before ill double check my springs at home for the color codes.

Peace.

SS, that's correct. The PNs are from the stickers on the bags the springs came in. I'll have to wait till I go home to get the strut numbers, but they are the same as what has been posted.

And because TTINWP, here we go:

I am 99% positive this is a pic of the Rev A "regular" STi sedan spring/strut set. I believe the Rev. B setup is identical to this except for strut PNs.

subysouth,,your timing is perfect!..What you have pictured above is exactly the takeoff package i have. The spring dot colors are the same and in the proper order. So evidently if you are correct i have a reg STi package not spec C or Ra,either way im very happy with the setup in combination with the other upgrades ive done.

So did I misquote your post in the other thread about the pink and blue dots on the rear springs? If I did I'm gonna delete it in the first post to avoid confusion.

If the above is what you have its the Rev A "regular" Sti sedan takeoffs. Thats an excellent setup for your car.

Now if we can pin down the Rev A RA and Rev B RA spec C spring codes we will be set.

ol' huh? hehe

Not yet but I have to admit part of this effort is to try and pin down the race-prepped model paint codes so I can give those a try on my Legacy. With their higher spring rates they might just be what I need.

Unfortunately I don't have a great picture of my rear springs but I believe that they are the yellow and 2 orange combo. The front springs are definitely the pink, orange and blue combo. Looks like I have the STi Sedan Rev B. takeoffs.

Here's an E-bay auction for some S202 struts. Are these the same as the Spec Cs? It seems like the colors might be right and they have the blue band instead of the gray one on the rear springs. From the pictures it looks like the Front springs have pink, blue (maybe purple), and green dots and the rears have a yellow and two greens. Apparently the struts have different part numbers though. I'll try to find out more information.

Looks like mine was a Rev A or B. I have the springs in my garage, struts on the car and it's raining, so I'm not checking the part numbers on those right now.
