I think the Rev D is different by one digit in the PNs. It also has the holes in the spring perches that the Rev C and earlier do not.

roger that....I was referring to the rev d. I didn't think there was any difference in pn's between the US sti and the JDM rev d that, say the type-c spring set would be mounted on.
Any clarification on this subysouth ? Or...are all rev-d's the same PN regardless of whether its JDM or USDM?

Fitment of the springs is more of a V7 vs V8 issue. If the Spec C springs are V8's they will work on GDB C or GDB D (USDM)

Its a good question and I dont know. I hope theyre the same cause it would sure simplify things. But they could be the same struts but different PNs for the 2 markets or they could be different struts because the USDM version has a different engine. Most of my info unfortunately is for the JDM takeoffs.

The GDB A and B's have those colors, the GDB C's have purple dots up front, the GDB D's have purple and red I think

and as for the S202's. They are the same as the spec C's. I've had three sets of these and are due in more soon.

Are those going to just drop into either a 2003 or 2002 WRX, with no other adjustments?

Yes, there's several sets on EBAY if you do a search under:

Does what go the same?

If you mean do the Spec C's fit the WRX directly then the answer is yes... I get those from time to time.

The 2003 GDB-C and GDB-D have different PN#'s I believe. I have a few sets at home I'll post them later on.

Exactly- you hit the nail on the head

I had thought that the v7 and v8 sets were completely plug and play with both the 2003 and 2002 USDM Imprezas; just wanted to appease the paranoid/anal retentive portion of my brain

I can't wait to receive mine

Thanks for your help!!!

Default Some more data points...

Tested some Spec-C springs today vs USDM STI springs. They were identical in every way: coils, dot colors (2x purple front, 2x green rear), wire diameter and spring rate.

Here's a pic of the fronts side by side:

Here is a pic of the rears:

Spring rates were tested by a local Porsche race prep shop. They tested both fronts and rears, with the following results. Note that the accuracy of the machine is plus/minus 10lbs, which means that the actual numbers may have that much error. However, the readings were identical between the USDM and Spec-C springs.

Front: 200lbs linear
Rear: 130-200lbs two stage progressive

Could they have about 12 lbs of error in front . Everything points to the v8 spec C as running 188/173 (progresive rear) and it appears the USDM v8 uses the same- makes sense- there also 10mm lower as well.

This is a departure from the v7 RA which ran 217/192 (no lowering), less caster and many other susp differences.

Where did you get the "Spec C" springs you are using to test against the USDM springs? The JDM Spec C springs are blue/green up front to the best on my knowledge, while the regular JDM STI springs are purple for GDB-C and Purple with a red dot for GDB - D

I have a set of GDB-C and GDB-D in my garage. I'll take some pics and list the strut PN's later on.

I have a set of v8 Spec C's due in soon from Japan (Green / Blue dots up front). You can test those if you wish.... or I can see if there is a shop in the Dallas area that can test them. It sure would be interesting to see if Subaru has departed from their paint code identification of the past.

Hey Stevie, too many letters.

It would be GDB(C) and GDB(D).

Please do post the strut PNs and pics.

Personally I'd like to see this mystery solved once and for all. If the v8 spec C has different paint dabs than the JDM v8 STi, there is better than a fair chance they are different.

However, everything I've been able to dig up shows the v8 spec C w/ 188/173 springs

here:
http://www.subarumembers.com/showroo...ra/spec_03.htm

http://www.ayutaya.com/home/knaka/bb...00600_00_6.JPG

In this pic you'll see the RA rates listed 38.0 front (217) and 33.4 (192), the right column is translated as 13% decrease in the front for v8 spec C equates to 33.06 or 188 ft lbs- same as the other site shows. Go to the rear springs show the v7 RA w/ 33.4 (192) decrease by 9% you get 30.394 which equals 173 ft lbs- exactly what the other article shows as well.

Interesting stuff.

I got the springs from Myles. Chaste has also apparently been selling the identical springs as in this thread: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...hreadid=526678

Both Myles and Chaste say that their source is impeccable and that the springs are defintely off of Spec-C cars. So, assuming there isn't massive willful fraud going on it seems likely that all Spec-C's are not the same.

I think this debate should no be, "Is it Spec-C or isn't it?" but instead, vendors need to start specifying paint codes, no matter what the sticker on the trunk lid of the donor car says.

StevieD, please do test the springs when you receive them. Please test them side by side with USDM springs, since ALL the spring rate numbers are suspect. I, for one, just want a near-stock ride height with 10-15% stiffer springs, no matter what they came off of.
