I have 2003 WRX Wagon rear struts, but both rear springs have different codes, anyone seen this?

Both have Orange on the top coil, and one yellow dab on the bottom, but one has a yellow dab and the other has a red dab.

Anyone seen this before? They look similar, but the one with the red dab looks thinner.. LOL

Hmm... never noticed that before but yup I just pulled my 02 wagon springs out of the basement and they are different too... and they ARE different coil thickness

ORANGE over YELLOW/ORANGE... 12.5mm

ORANGE over YELLOW/RED... 13.0mm

and the YELLOW/RED feels stiffer...

unless... I used to have a set of JDM wagon springs and maybe they got mixed up... but I don't think so...

The question is then, as the front paint dabs are identical, which one is a left and which one is a right.

I am assuming they are different due to driver being on the left, would you assume the stiffer is on the drivers side?

LOL

now I'm going to have to go and look at mine

I'd be really suprised if different coil diameter was the norm-my guess is mix up, but I've been suprised before

Can anyone help me out with the springs I have? I bought them from a member a while back. He said they are STi springs but the paint codes don't match from what I see in this thread.

The longer springs with the taper (I'm guessing front) have a green and purple dot.

The shorter springs with no taper have 2 purple dots.

What springs are these?

you'll notice our documentation of the newer springs leaves a little to be desired , my guess is one of the newer 05+ springs

btw the longer tapered springs are the rears

would be useful if we got the 05+ guys to provide strut #'s/paint codes

Anyone know what Pink over Green, Yellow is for fronts?
the rears are green green.

i heard they were from a spec c strut combo but i don't know what year, and they were on a TR so i'm guessing they were either from an STI that he got the struts for, or the TR ones and he just got them mixed up(it happens)

I have a set of "mystery springs," off of red V8 struts, likely JDM take-offs:

Front: purple and white, no grey spring insullator (taller spring than USDM STI purple/purple front spring by ~1", but shorter than 04-07 wrx fronts.)
Rear: green and green (same as USDM STI)

I've searched high and low and have no idea what the heck the front purple and white springs are from. I'd be grateful for any insight!

speculating here but the USDM STi's basically got the spec C suspension-dampers/springs/control arms- the "regular" v8 jdm STi did not- it's very possible you have "regular" v8 jdm STi springs/dampers

Hmm, you might be onto something. It is curious that the rear spring with two green dots has three coils on the bottom which stack under full load, whereas USDM STI rear springs (purple/purple) only have two. Both springs are approximately the same length, but I wonder if the purple/purple compresses less under load. I also have a pair of rear STI springs with green/purple dots which look identical to the green/green springs. what a confusing mess!

Here are some rear STI springs:

From left to right:
USDM 07 STI / JDM V8 STI? / ? / ? / V7 STI Sedan/V7 STI wagon

The funny thing is that the dark blue/light blue spring came off a set rear USDM 04 wrx strut and was paired with a wrx sedan rear spring.

I'm guessing that is probably what it is- "regular" v8 STi

have you put a micrometer to any of them- just curious if they use different wire on any of them (my STi Tarmac springs have thicker wire)

there was a thread floating around that confirmed that certain (maybe all) WRX's have different springs left and right in the rear

^ that's a great collection of springs

So I have a set of supposedly V7 JDM STi struts and springs. The rear's match up to the color code here but I cannot find the code for the fronts anywhere. The fronts are Orange over Green Yellow. Here is a pic of them:

Anyone know what these are?

Hey guys I have jdm sti pink springs (v7) that have a color combo I cannot find here.

front: no color dots?
rear: red top, yellow bottom, grey insulator on bottom.

I may be missing dots, but I don't think so.

Any help would be appreciated, as I am trying to sell and everyone swears by the dots.

So it's been a couple of years, I've pulled a couple of USDM STi suspension off (all with different paint codes), and I still haven't seen this pattern repeated.

Does anyone know what springs have two purple marks both front and rear like this:

On the topic of WRX Inverted Struts, I've possibly run into some more part numbers depending on type (version?).

Can anyone confirm these? (Also, does type = revision, or maybe car version?)

NOTE: It looks like I might have front and rears all mixed up... trying to find the proper info now.

GGB (Sti Wagon)

Type A:
Front ? = 20310FE020
Front ? = 20310FE030
Rear ? = 20360FE020
Rear ? = 20360FE030

Type B:
Front ? = 20310FE320
Front ? = 20310FE330
Rear ? = 20360FE320
Rear ? = 20360FE330

GGA (WRX Wagon)

Type C:
Front ? = 20310FE820
Front ? = 20310FE830
Rear? = 20360FE820
Rear ? = 20360FE830

Type D:
Front ? = 20311FE221
Front ? = 20311FE231
Rear ? = 20360FE721
Rear ? = 20360FE731

Type E:
Front ? = 20311FE220

I can verify the revision C part #'s, those are the ones I had previously and they were indeed inverted (they also were more firmly damped than the oe USDM MY04 WRX wagon non inverted dampers)

part#'s are listed as FR,FL,RR, RL

I can also verify the GGB rev A's as I had a set of those as well (I think they are still available through the dealers as the SPT kit for the 02/03 WRX wagons- comes w/ dampers and springs)

Default Which are these?

So I've searched high and low, and I can't ID these springs for sure. I have seem some mentions of people having the same color combo (including the fact that the L & R are different), but everyone either has yellow on top, or doesn't specify.
If someone can definitively ID these for me, I'd appreciate it!
Orange on top, orange and yellow on bottom of one
Orange on top, red and yellow on the bottom of the other one (installed upside-down)
