tire fitment question (getting no response in tire forum)

I'm getting no quick replies in the wheel and tire forum, so I'm posting here. I have 18x7.5 volks, and right now I have yokohama parada spec-2's that measure 215/40/18. They're almost worn out and I need new tires soon, but I'm looking at Kumho Ecsta Supra 712's. The size for those tires are 225/40/18. Would those fit? I know that the 1st number measures width from sidewall to sidewall, but would a 225 tire only be suitable for a wheel that's 8 inches wide versus 7.5?

Yes. They will fit fine.

Check out the Tire Rack "specs" link for the Kumho 712s. 7.5" width is the minimum width rims for those tires. Optimal is 8".

what I was going to say is 215/40/18 is pretty small. Ive seen people use 225/35/18 and 40

i'm going to get some 225/45/17 for my mini and the wheels are 17x7 so you'll be more then fine. you should try to fit 235.

Alright, thanks for the help guys. Yeah, I noticed a little how the outer lip of the rims are sticking out just a tad with the 215's.
