i have an 02 RS and i have a wrx rear section. lets see..where to start...umm well first of all the wrk muffler has 2.5 inch piping..or something like that and the RS has 2.25 inch piping. and the flange for the wrx muffler is at a different rotation or something.. basically u have to cut off the flang of the RS's midpipe then get a larger one to fit the wrx muffler and rotate it a little bit to match the wrx muffler. just take it to a muffler shop and they will do everything. by the way when u rev the wrx muffler or deaccelerate u will get a bird chirpy cricket type of noise. hence the "woo hoot!" other than that it sounds little more aggressive.

well if its an aftermarket one, he still has to do the same thing...rotate flange and get a larger midpipe section. i have a 2.5 inch midpipe (unresonated) and a stock wrx rear section. i sorta regret it tho. could of used that money and put it into getting a better exhaust like stromung or something.

i was wondering about the stock muffler. i just wanted
a better sound and not spend too much money,
but i think i might just go for custom
pipes and the a magna flow muffler of get the greddy evo
something not too loud.

there is a dude in cali, either in private classfied or scic that is selling a used n1 catback from a 2k1 2.5 RS for 200+shipping.

thats a great deal....

i have a n1 catback from a 2001 2.5 RS on my 2k2 2.5 RS.

everything lines up fine except one hangar. however, you get the kartboy hangars for the other 3, and you dont really need that extra hangar that doesnt line up (needs to be rotated to the other side).

that's weird... i don't see how a catback from a 2001 RS would fit a 2002. the body style is completely different. not to mention the '02 is 4 door.

Default fitament

well what really matters is the length of the piping, the bends, and the hangar location and flange rotation.

the wrx has different piping because its a turbo, and at least one of the flanges is different. Its not that hard for a shop to modify a wrx catback or axle back to fit, but its not somethint i could do myself.

iirc, the wrx axle back to fit onto a 2k2 rs requires some additional piping being added.

iirc, a wrx catback requires the cutting and rotation of a flange, and maybe lengthening the pipe... there are a bunch of threads on this, and one of the dudes that seriously helped me out with advice and info is Kostamogen (sp?)

if he chimes in here, he can provide some insight.
but yeah the 99-01 catbacks fit right up on the 02's cuz thats what I am running on mine.

True 1 of the 4 hangars doesnt face the right way, but you can either have a shop rotate that hangar the other direction, or just get some nice good kartboy hangars and just use the other 3 hangars or so, and you are fine.

as for me, i am not using that one hangar, and i am fine, no excessive movement/rattling of the system, but then again i dont drive as hard as a lot of you guys!

I am running an Apexi N1 catback.
Its a lot of fun, nice rumble, sets off the occasional alarm in the garage, though you pretty much have to TRY to do so...I tried the first couple times, but it doesnt really set em off with normal garage driving.

I really like the exhaust, which is why I recommended it-- I saw someone selling it either in the SCIC or Private Classified for $200 + s/h. I think thats a good deal- his was from a 2001 RS I think, and would therefore be just like mine!
