Default Subaru w/ hood-scoop=turbocharged?

I see a lot of Subaru's with hood-scoops like the one the WRX has. Do all Subarus with hood-scoops have turbos? I'm not talking about people that add hood-scoops. Lots of outbacks have them.

no... the only US hood scooped car in production that is actually turbo is the WRX... the early 90s turbo legacy had a little scoop too, but not for an intercooler... as for the others, subaru just knew they look perdy...

AHAH!! I WAS RIGHT! I was having a debate with my Dad over this. I didn't think hood-scoop meant turbo. Afterall there are a lot of Subarus w/ hoodscoops. That'd be a lot of fast Subarus if they all had turbos

Plenty of 1.8 turbo subaru exist, but yeah the WRX is the only one so far with an intercooler.

The legacy hood scoop is piped pass the turbo to cool it down.

I read the FAQ. I read all the articles that related to this question from the FAQ post stickied at the top in this specific "Normally Aspirated" forum. I'm not new to forums. I know people hate repeat posts. I hate them too, but don't assume I didn't look. Maybe it was in some other FAQ somewhere I didn't realize. This forum is especially large, give me a break. If it's in the FAQ, and you're trying to help maybe you could SHOW ME where it is. that would be helpful instead of just make me look like i'm a newb or whatever.

John-

you have a 2002 Impreza 2.5RS, hence a hood-scoop, and you don't know if your car is turboed or not?

Is that like my friend who thought older DSMs had a bulge in the hood for the turbo? He didnt believe me when I told him its for the cam gear cover.

however, if the subaru has the two black double vents on the hood in addition to the scoop, dead give-away to not mess with that badboy.

- Celicas
- RAV4 Chilly Edition?!
- Highlander SUV
- Mustang
- Thunderbird?
- of course old versions of Legacys and RS.

Thumbs up Oil Cooler

You can use the scoop on a N/A for the oil cooler. It works great.

SEN
Or for that ram-air affect on an N/A 2.5RS with the filter mounted on the throttle body.
