does this make any sense? How much was your service?
also I'm thinking of switching over to Synthetic, do you think it's too early?

7,500 is just an oil change, usually (maybe also an air filter). So if that's all you're doing, you're getting ripped off.
What else do they say they are including for that price? |

- Tire Rotation - Check ignition - Check belts - Fluids I might be able to reduce the price if I do my own oil change, and I don't need to rotate my tires since I just installed new rims and tires? |

If belts need to be replaced at >50,000 miles, and show no wear even when they need to be replaced, what is there to check? You'd probably hear squealing if something were too tight.
I dont know what they would check in the ignition, but your ECU is paranoid enough to throw a CEL at any little thing, so again what is there to check? Fluids? You can do that yourself for free in <5 minutes -- your manual will even tell you how and what to look for. Rotation you have already taken care of. It seems outrageously overpriced. If it were my car, I'd have them do the oil change (but not for more than $30, my dealer charges more like $20) and do the rest myself. I generally don't put synthetic oil in my cars until after 10,000 miles. But then again our MINI came with synthetic straight from the factory. YMMV. |

I LOVE how car repair places (or repair places in general) throw out an arms length list of "check" items, the vast majority are either 2 second jobs or unnecessary. It makes it easier to convince the uneducated that the cost is reasonable...after all "we're doing a 397 point check"...
From my quick glance at the maintenance schedule everything looked real routine until 30k and even that didn't look beyond the means of any decent hobby mechanic. I'll stick with doing as much as possible myself. That way if something gets hosed up, I KNOW who's to blame.. ![]() |

cheers guys...
I'm just gonna do the oil change myself, check (an maybe replace) my air filter, check my fluids myself (got to learn how to do that anyway) and will get my tires rotated when I need to do so... I'm gonna save myslf the headache and $$ |

BTW, if you happen by Slartibartfast and the Sock at Roaring Mouse, tell 'em hi for me. Just say "some guy with a MINI down south sez 'hi.'"

Here's what I said about my 15,000 service at my local dealer here:
http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...hreadid=320448 Maintenance problems? Expensive? My WRX is 51 weeks old and has just under 14,000 miles. I took it to the dealer for the first time yesterday. I had the 15,000 mile service done (modified, see below). And, I wanted to get the clutch judder and decel noises noted in the system. Neither are very bad now; I am just being cautious. I just changd the oil and filter myself and I will rotate tires when the winter tires and wheels come off in a few weeks. So, all I had done were the "inspection" items. Bottom line -- a bit over an hour at the dealer and $35 lighter when I left. One year, one visit, $35. That ain't a problem or expensive. Do not ask me, however, to add up what I have spent in time or money "improving" my WRX. I don't know because I am afraid of the answer! ![]() |
