Tried to charge me for diagnostics, for having AEM cai. BS..
Said if it keeps happening, will have to send ECU to SOA for reprogram. I hope they do a recall, so i don't have to leave my car for 3 days.

You should've paid for diagnotics service. Your AEM intake caused the 0102 and 0113 codes.

It didn't cause the misfires on all 4 cylinders though.

On ~7500
Code was Misfire on 1 and 3
Dealer didn't know what caused it.

On ~8200
Code - Don't know. Dealer still has it. I don't know the code but they told me the Mass Air Flow Sensor was bad. They've had it since Thursday waiting for the part. I'm supposedly getting it back today(Monday following week)

I'm not sure yet if both CEL instances are definately related. I'm not sure if the MAF Sensor caused the Missfires about 3 weeks ago partially because I don't know exactly what role the MAF sensor plays. Both times it came on was when the car was Idling. Plus, in the morning even if it has started to warm up, it can come close to stalling when I start from a stop. The whole car would shake while the engine hung on trying to keeping running. A quick push in of the clutch and the car engine would return to a smoth idle. Try again and everything is fine.

Dealer = Bill Rapp Super Store - Syracuse, NY

What's up with all the CEL's? I know 2 other people who have the WRX and all of us have had it in for one reason or another. One was to get the computer reprogramed which took 3 days, the other was a major idling problem shortly after he picked it up from the dealer. I'm not sure if his cause was the MAF Sensor because I haven't spoke to him yet about my latest problems.

Thumbs down another one...#3

* transmission: manual
* Mileage: 8000, 13000, 17500
* codes: 0303, 0301, 0303, 0301
* Carter Subaru -- Seattle, WA
* Dealer Actions: #1 reprogram ECU, #2-3 reset

All CEL are preceded by rougher-than-usual idling and increased turnover on ignition. Fuel mileage seems to be down.

Personal driving tidbits:
Chevron 92 octane gas
no mods
Always cool down the engine after driving.
Can count the number of times above 5500k rpm on my hands

Dealer suggested a 2 minute cool down (idle) period before turning the car off. Especially if I planned to restart the car while it was still hot. I heard mumblings about the location of the turbo being too close to some part of the engine. Apparently the heat is causing fuel to vaporize when it should not.

This is getting very annoying.

Default Hyperactive CEL solved...

Ok the squeeky wheel gets the grease. I have complained for months and many thousand miles 28000 to be exact that my early (march 2001) WRX wagon had ce issues. Poor acceleration intermitant boost ,some good days some bad. Lots and lots of CELs. Anyway dealer finally ripped out its little brain and sent it away for reprograming...one week later and I have a totaly different car. It is very strong all the time.It no longer bleeds off boost for no reason and its a whole lot more fun to drive. Part of the reason they sent it away is because it wasnt recording any fault codes. Id bring it in with the CEL on and nothing would down load. Anyway if your car is doing this keep making noise and sooner or later it will get fixed... OK now I have to get them to fix my clutch/tranny death rattle...man is that ever annoying just turned over 30,000 this weekend so warrenty is almost gone.

I had this code come up 4 times before I took it to the dealer. It used to be a huge inconvience for me to get it there. Took it in with the light on today. Got a call a few minutes ago. The ECU is in the mail.

Talking check engine light

added 1 qt oil @ 250 miles. 2nd qt at 620 miles. chec engine light flashed @ 628 miles 5 x's then went off. on restart check engine light on and engine misfire. code 303 #3 cylinder misfire. plug fouled and cylinder walls wet with oil...replaced short block. road tested check engine light again. code 303! exhaust valves not seating(due to carbon buidup?) less than 700 miles? excessive oil consumption? out comes the engine again. picked car up and check engine light on at 753 miles! s.o.a. replaced car
the dealer told me that the third check engine light was solved by replacing the exhaust gas temp sensor which i understand to be located near #3
i love my new car!

Default I'm Back

1st time: Gas cap pressure test failed (yeh right)
2nd time: Same plus Evap Control System Leak - Replaces Gas Cap
3rd time: Just called haven't pulled the code yet, but the Service Manager tells me that they just got a memo saying that there may be some ECU's that may need to be reprogrammed and he needs to send it out. What a joke. The sales guy told me this a year ago. I didn't feel like calling him out, I just want them to fix it. We'll see what happens on Monday.

Unhappy

* transmission: manual
* Went on 3/7/02 - Mileage - 4006
* Code: P0420 - Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold
* Kelly Subaru
* ECU was reset and retested - status was OK

Here's the story. I have a MRT full turbo back exhaust, MRT CAI, and Godspeed uppipe. I had the first two mods for a while now. My first CEL came on 3/4. I installed the Godspeed uppipe on 3/2. Drove for about 200 miles and then CEL light comes on (a solid light not flashing). It goes off after about 20 miles of driving. I fill up the gas tank on 3/7. It comes on after about 5 miles of driving. It stayed on until today (about 70 miles on tripometer). So the dealer knows I have an aftermarket exhaust. He checked the exhaust for any leaks - there were none. He didn't mention anything about my uppipe or CAI; I'm wondering if he knew about those two mods. Now I drove back to work (10 miles or so) and the CEL has not come back on. Dealer said, "If it comes back on, bring it in and I'll do some quiet inquries without your VIN# so we won't have to involve your warranty." Hopefully the CEL will stay off, but I wouldn't be surprised if it came on again - I'm attributing it to the uppipe; perhaps the OEM EGT sensor wasn't properly installed???

Hank3:

Well, it is either the turbo back exhaust or the OEM EGT sensor is not installed correctly. I know the Godspeed downpipe won't cause a CEL because of it's small cat-like device where the O2 sensor mounts. I know the Godspeed uppipe won't cause a CEL because mine doesn't, I don't think any do, and I've never heard of anyone getting a CEL from an uppipe. For the OEM EGT sensor - the bend in the metal pipe has to face the drivers side fender and the end of the metal pipe with the wires running from it has to be facing the passenger side fender.

This is the first I've heard of this, but would the OEM EGT sensor trigger a P0420? I'm thinking the MRT's catylst is not working as good as the ECU would like, especially now since we removed the cat in the uppipe (I did the install).

1st at 9,000 miles, replaced cam shaft sensor

2nd at 19,000, want to reflash ECU

Why can't they send a reflashed ECU and then send mine back? They said three to four days w/o my car. Bad enough but the dealer is 155 miles away.

Holy Crap!!! I live in the country and I thought I had it bad! 35 miles away for me. The main question is, did you get a loaner car to make up for the time?. I haven't yet, but if I have to take it in for warranty work again I will.

Angry ****** b1tch!

5-speed sedan
code hasn't been retrieved yet
check engine light came on at approx. 10,800 miles
that was 3 days ago

I was going on highway 5 towards Los Angeles. I was driving about an hour at 70mph. There was a clearance of cars in front of me so I decide to speed up to 100mph. I maintained that speed for about 20 minutes, then the check engine light came on. When it came on, the car bucked a bit, and started to slow down ---- even when I applied more pressure on the accelerator!

Did this happen to anybody else? Any solutions from the dealer? Also, is the car warranty honored at other Subaru dealers other that where the car was bought?

Thanks for any input

Default CEL

1st ever CEL went off 6/7/02
5-speed
8,800 miles or so..
purchased car in october
cel = P0304...
went to dealer, reset and mechanic explained to me that this is a common problem happening to the turbo WRX's, computer/sensors are really sensitive, recommend to let idle for 30 seconds after driving and/or get a TT...then explained can be due to the increase in temperature here in NJ (yesterday was hot) and increase heat soak from turbo/engine may have cause the CEL to show....

Unhappy O2 Sensor Probs

Ok same deal as many others.

2002 wrx 5spd wagon
3500 mi.
bought 3/02
O2 sensor code
not fixed by new sensor
need ECU reprogrammed

Have had cel on and off since purchase. Car is slow and bad gas mileage. Brought to commonwealth subaru in NH. Pulled the 1st bank o2 sensor code. Ordered new one and put it in. CEL came right back on. They had no idea what to do. They tried to call subaru and couldnt get through. I just called commonwealth again, they finally spoke with subaru technical and are ordering another O2 sensor and need to pull my ECU and send it out to get it reprogrammed. Lose my car for 3-5 days. They didnt know why. Said they would give me a loaner. Pretty disappointed so far. These techs know far less than I do just from surfing around.
