I pull these quite often it seems. It is most often in hard acceleration during cornering with less than 1/2 a tank of gas. They usually reset/go off when I fill up.

This one occurred with a full tank. The service advisor told me I needed to slow down. He said it was a cam shaft position sensor going off at 6200 rpm. I said, "but the redline is 7200 rpm" He responded that I was only going 25mph. That was a bit confusing to be honest. I think 25mph is about right for that rpm in 1st gear.
We'll see how this goes.

Which circuit board? That's a new one--I don't think anyone else has reported that fix.

P0457 - Lots of them. (already logged)
Current Dealer explanation is a "blocked Fuel Ventilation system " (rear of the car?) from going off road (it was "full of dirt".)

More info as I find out.

3000 miles- - "No Code" On-while cruising on highway
Off-in 2 days
-Dealer states probably gas cap loose (happened with a 1/4 tank of gas)

4000 miles- - P0303 On-while accelerating in 3rd- not redline
Off- in 3 days
-Dealer states likely bad fuel(Mobil 93 octane?). He states next time he will do further diagnostics.

Here's my dilemma... I just bought an AEM intake, and want to install it, but I don't want the dealer blaming my new intake for my next CEL. Do any of you guys with these CEL problems already have mods on your cars that the dealers are giving you a hard time for?

8750 miles, too many mods to list.

P0303 cylinders 3 AND 4.

Came on within 1 minute of start of hot engine. It had been sitting less than 15 minutes after a long hard drive. I had cooled the car down w/ 10 minutes of slow driving and a 2 minute idle before shutdown.

When facing the front of the car, are the cylinders labeled:

turbo..3 4
.........1 2
.......radiator ?

Yes. Cylinders 1 and 2 are in the front (closest to the bumper), cylinders 2 and 4 are on the driver's side.

Default Another light- update

1. 3000mi- "no code" says dealer
2. 4000mi- P0303- reset
3. 6000mi-"this is a code we don't understand"... later that day they determined an ECU reprogramming was necessary.

So I will have to give them my car to trade in for a rental for 3-5 days. Hope this takes care of it.

Unhappy This one seems more worrisome...

Well, I am now a member of the club here:

* Manual Tranny (STi short throw, factory installed)
* 1-29-02, *93* miles on the odometer!!
* P0546, Exhaust Temp Sensor High Output
* Paul Brothers
* Tech found that connector #4 on the ECM was loose so he connected it. They had to replace the tranny (well, parts of it) before I took delivery due to buzzing I heard during my checkout drive. I now think that's the buzz talked about elsewhere in the forum. I just hope this is it, I want to break the car in and have some fun!!

By more worrisome, I mean it seems like a build quality issue. I sold an American truck due to quality issues, this doesn't give me warm fuzzies!

<EDIT>

* 2-23-02, 155 miles on the odometer
* P0456
* Paul Brothers
* Foudn root of same problem, defective wiring harness in the firewall, causing intermittent short on that sensor. Replaced sensor and either replaced or repaired harness. Working like a champ now. I hope I have now fulfilled my statistical amount of defects (~2 per car for Imprezas)

That seems like total BS to me..
If that connector was unplugged there would be major hell to pay or the car wouldn't even run correctly .. and it locks in place with a tab.. Doesn't seem to me like they are dealing straight with you.

P???? - Boost solenoid malfunction
~3000miles
Dealer reset & ordered new solenoid.
Symptom: Triggered a boost/fuel cut.
Note: Was actually my fault for boosting to 16psi which you can't get away with at 8000ft asl.

P0420 - Catalyst system efficiency below threshold.
~10,000 miles.
I pulled code and reset.
Symptom: CEL came on while coasting. No change in performance.
Note: This is the first catalyst related CEL since I installed my uppipe 7000 miles ago.

P0303 - Cylinder 3 misfire.
~10,500 miles.
I pulled code and reset.
Symptom: CEL came on shortly after starting the car and flooring it in 2nd (motor was already warm, and had only been sitting for about 15 minutes). No change in performance.

Default Don't make assumptions

Just a warning to the wise, don't make too many assumptions on what's causing those pesky CELs. I brought mine in after another experience with the P0546 code and they found it was due to an intermittent grounding problem on the wiring harness.

Looks like it's probably in the splice in the main wiring harness coming through the firewall. Should be fixed by tomorrow though, but I just about assumed it was a faulty sensor.

Sooo, just make sure not to put off the trip to the dealer like 1000 miles if you don't know, for sure, why you're seeing the CEL.....
