Post Impreza 25RS Coupe owner hoping 2003 SVX is true.

Well,

I guess I better head to yahoo...for news(hopefully) about the 2003 SVX since this forum is about to disappear.

I'm disappointed that Subaru decided to discontinue production of the coupe version of the impreza.

But I have heard rumours of 2003 SVX. Is this true? what's the latest news?

autoweek said it was true and that it was either gonna have an H-6 or a turbocharged 280hp flat 4. i think they said that it was gonna run off of the new impreza's chasis, but it would be a coupe. available as a 2003 model. cross ur fingers.

Greetings,

Kinetic Concepts SVX Journal had an article about a new SVX back in February 1999. It included a picture:
http://www.kineticconcepts.com/journ...wsvx_front.gif

I don't know if other pictures of the 2003 SVX exist...anyone?

Man! That pic in the Autoweek story ought to make all you SVX folks hang on real tight to your rides! Looks like a modern Edsel or something! Am I the only one here old enough to remember it? That pic looks like some GM influence has reached the wrong department! If they bring that thing out the General will own FHI in pretty short order!
Seriously, guess I'd have to see it from a few other angles to be sure. The original was Love at First Sight, while this elicits the opposite emotion! Anyone else have the same reaction?

Thanks for the info everyone.

Umm...that picture of the SVX...ugh, doesn't look good in my eyes. Looks like a two seater too. I want 2+2. But then again, it's only a concept picture. The real thing will probably look nothing like it. I have a feeling tho, like the new WRX, we won't be getting any real pictures until a few month before the car's debute. Subaru is so secretive about their new cars. Damnit!

I can't wait.

I really hope that if there is truely going to be a new SVX that it does not look like that concept picture. That thing is butt ugly!!!!!! If it does look like that then atleast my 94 SVX LSI will be be more desirable because it is sooooooooo much more attractive

the autoweek pic has got to be a mistake, i mean if u click on it it looks like a cross between a jag and a bentley. and th pic is a four door when the article is sayin right next to it that it is a coupe.

To: Subaru Design Department

Regarding: Your plans for the new SVX

Rumor has it that you have plans to bring back the SVX. Please be warned that if you try to pass off a 2-door version of the WRX customers will stay away from the showrooms in droves. I think the wisest course of action would be the following:
1- Copy the deisgn of a 92-97 SVX.
2- Make more of them.
3- If GM tries to meddle, tell them to take a long walk off a short pier.

Should you be unable to convince an SVX owner to part with thiers for reverse engineering, feel free to make use of the services of Italdesign (the chaps who designed the SVX).

Thankfully yours,

If the must keep common platforms, then instead of basing it on the Impreza platform, how about a 2-door based on the Legacy platform?

The SVX could be a Legacy coupe, compete against the Accord Coupe/Camry Solara. AFAIK Audi does not have a large 2-door coupe for sale here.

Um guys, unless things have really changed with the MY01/02 impreza, the legacy, outback forester, and impreza are all on the same platform. The Impreza was origionaly just a shortened Legacy, with maybe a little width reduction.

Also it most likely WILL be based on the Legacy/Impreza platform, as there have only been 3 subarus not on this platform since Subarus were orgionaly sold in America. They are in order the 360, the Justy, and the SVX.

Any questions?

CRZ_MSL, agreed! The styling of the new SVX should extrapolate from the previous version and not based on the Impreza WRX. Don't want no funky Round Head Lights. hehehe

In terms of market niche, I'm not sure if the SVX wants to compete against the likes of Accord and Solara? I'd much prefer it to compete against the likes of the new Z and RX-7, these are more sports car territory instead of touring coupe. But which ever way they go, if it has appealing styling to go along with fair Price. I'll definitely consider it especially if it is the only one with AWD.

What does everyone think the prize will be? I don't recall reading it about of the articles.

Wasn't the XT a unique platform?

Nope The XT was on the same platform, but its like the Legacy/Impreza same basic platform, not one body panel that is common. The XT Turbo and the Turbo sedan/wagon of the same year shared the same basic drivetrains, suspention, and other misc mechanical parts.

Cool

CRZ, while I agree with you in principle on your "memo", I don't think they'll have any reduction in their showroom traffic.
First of all, the new generation WRX is a fine car in itself. In 2-door coupe form, with the proper styling cues and an SVX badge slapped on it, they should sell all that they ship over here.
Will it be a "true SVX"? No.

Actually, I think CRZ MSL has the right idea with the two door coupe based on the Legacy platform. With the 3.0 six it would be a pretty sweet ride, and very competitive with the very cars he's mentioned. I'd be very surprised if Subaru brought back the SVX name though. I think Autoweek is just fishing for stories.
