Unhappy Possible Dilemma Regarding Warranty (long)...

Well, as most of you may know, my car got hit with an egg while I was driving through Bellingham last week. When I backed up to see if I could see them, I didn't think I did anything wrong, but I must have dumped the clutch.

I went to my mechanic and we're 99% sure I chipped a gear. Call me what you want, but I realize I made a mistake. I just went to the transmission shop next door to get an estimate because I am ready to take full responsibility!!

Anyway, I was guesstimated $1000 for worst-case scenario. I'm just mad at myself for dumping the clutch. I feel like such a gomer!! Anyway, my mechanic said he understood why I feel stupid, but he also said "I don't know why they'd put a tranny in this thing that can't handle stock horsepower." That got me thinking...

I remember that kid that blew up his motor being a dumbass and tried to get it covered under warranty after removing his mods and all that and I don't want to be like him!! I have a CAI and a cat-back.

I most likely will at least talk to SOA about this and tell them what happened (THE WHOLE TRUTH) just so they know that this can happen. I've also read that people have broken first gear by dumping the clutch at high revs...

So what do you think I should do? Should I ask SOA if they will cover the repairs? Or should I just bite the bullet and get it repaired out of my own broke-ass pocket? I'm moving back home for a couple months to save some money, so this will just keep me there longer. I AM ready to pay for this out-of-pocket and be responsible for my actions!! I'm just curious what everyone else thinks.

Thanks for your input!!

Dewey

And before any flaming happens, let me emphasize a couple of things again...

- I am ready to pay out of pocket

- I will tell SOA the whole truth

- I realize this is nobody's fault but my own

Thanks again.

SUCKAGE....

all you can do is be honest and see what they say.

you know what caused this....

worse case scenario...
soa says nope.. cya....

other options that i've seen and heard of...
soa decides to cover it under warranty...
or...
soa contributes a portion of the costs towards the repair...
maybe they dont end up paying for all of it... but $1k or so is better than nothing right?

iirc?
tranny replacement = $3kish via subaru
is it just one gear that's gone?
diagnosed at all by subaru yet?
what dealership are you considering going to?

shout if i can help in any way.

Thanks, Jamie! I got my car through a friend in Canada, so no dealer warranty program or anything. Although when my 6-disc quit working they replaced it.

Anyway, the only thing wrong with the car is that it makes noise in reverse. So as far as I know, all I did was chip that gear. No diagnostics by anybody yet. All I've done is go to my mechanic and talked to the tranny shop next door.

If you want to help... ...how do I contact SOA? Thanks again!!

Hm. If you got it in Canada would you have to go to a SoC dealer to get warranty work done?

there are some things soa can do here warranty wise...

they need to be reimbursed by soc...
but there are a few things that can be done...

otherwise it's take a trip up to b.c. to get the work done
