Exclamation Spy Shots: New Legacy Outback

Thought some folks here might be interested in this

http://www.thecarconnection.com/inde...&sid=178&n=158

Shows the 250hp H6 with AVCS which sounds great. Im starting to think that my idea that the H6 will be the outback engine while the 2.5T will be the GT engine will be true. Looks nice as well

Default Yep!

Note the raised body, larger cross-section tires, subtle wheelwell and lower body cladding & fog lamp!

Wow, that's really sweet looking. Judging by that, the new Baja should look superb.

looks real clean yet still somewhat rugged. more of a suburban cruiser than a backwoods mudder look to it. very nice.

Sweet! Cladding's a bit Baja-esque though. ya know if they shortened the rear overhang and
made the body taller it'd be a nice big brother to the
Forester !

Default A couple of things...

Do those wheels look like 17" units? The tires/wheels appear slightly larger in diameter than current models. Not sure if they went from a 60-series to a 55-series tire either.

This appears to be a white monotone, but not sure about that, it could also be silver. In any case the cladding does not lend itself well to 2-toning, judging by what I see here. The cladding does remind me a bit of the cladding used on the Volvo XC90, which is unpainted black (like the Forester X), so perhaps the base Outback might receive that treatment, whereas all other trim levels might receive the monotone treatment.

i belive those are the outback sport wheels
but i've been wrong before.

i only see plastic cladding on the lower doors, the fender flares seem to be stamped in the steel, less plastic = cleaner look. nice.

Notice that the car is camouflaged somewhat... It's conceivable that this particular car is painted monotone just to keep a lower profile.

Default in Colorado, hu?

Wow, the picture is Idaho Springs, Colorado! On I-25. I missed it when it was in Colorado - graaa! And why, is it already here in the states? There isn't a house like that in Japan. Outback is done in Indiana, correct? If so, they have some production plastic parts made... Does that mean Subaru will shock us with Baja/OB with turbo/h-6 this fall? I can hope, can't I? On the side - so Baja will lose turbo with 2004(5) model? Sad if so, considering it hasn't been sold it yet... They justified putting turbo in because of the weight. It's OK to put the dead weight in a new model, then? What gives?

I was just looking at those Outback wheels again in the enlarged images (which I've saved as Photoshop files), and I swear, I think those are 17" wheels and the tire look to be 55-section. So, while they may look like the OBS wheels, I don't think they are.

Looks like it has teh smae sexy eyes the new Legacy sedan has, huh? I'm into it, I think the turbo Legacy will be my next car, probably the wagon since we're planning on having a child sometime soon... that and my wife thinks Subaru wagons are the only wagons that don't look dork.

Default You're right, Jarvis, I-70

My mind was off to la-la land with the shots.

John Elway in Golden, CO, dealer guy (didn't take his name since his information was innaccurate) said he went to Arizona dealership meeting a week ago, and said "even with new Legacy platform will come out next year, OB and Baja won't be on the new platform - SOA will keep using the old platform." Anyone thinks this is true? So SOA can use pu old platform they already have in invenoty? Really? Now that the spy shot is out, and it is taken in the States (I'll bet you on this my 5 bucks), he may be incorrect? And Baja will be out this fall "with early production model" as SOA (Rob somebody) put (does this really mean earlyER "production" model"?).

But then, is Subaru going to abanan turbo Baja, in favor of h-6? That's what it sounds like from the article... I want Baja, with turbo (easily modifiable), not h-6. I had my mind set on this car, but if they don't put the turbo in Baja, then I might as well going to XT... It's killing me!

Umm, guys, I hate to bring this up, but have you looked at the source of that picture? Isn't Brenda Priddy well known for being a photoshopper who takes a lot of liberties? I seem to recall many of her pictures being featured in Motor Trend then getting thoroughly debunked on car sites like this one.

That's a load of of BS. She's one of the best known and widely respected car spy photographers out there. She's been published in just about every major auto publication out there. If she weren't legit, they wouldn't use her.

I just remember a discussion on a couple of different Mazda boards which lambasted her for the Miata pic below:

This pic is clearly a photochop using a Miata and the MPS 6. Certainly the Outback looks more like a real spy pic, but I thought I'd bring up the possibility.
