Default Do you get irritated by...

...people who hold up lines in supermarkets and other retail places writing checks? Especially for small dollar amts?

Whats the matter, haven't these people heard of debit/check card? They're faster, you dont have to whip out extra forms of IDs, and you dont kill as many trees wasting check paper.

Am i the only one who feels this way?

Ed

what the fk happened to plain old cash ?
i'm armed with cash at all times, never less than $20 just in case.
i have an atm card (never even used) and like 3 major credit cards.

i save my checks for writing bills.

people are so annoying... how about those old people who start fights with the kid at the cashier over how much this and that costs ?

people that write checks are just floating money. If they had it right now they would just use their check/debit card.

Not all banks offer check cards, you know. I write checks, and I have never "floated" one.

Check have teh suck! I hate them! Especially those who take forever to write them. Personally, I never carry cash or checks- just my debit. If they don't take debit- I don't there.

The annoying thing is that they wait until everything is totaled to begin writing. You can fill in everything else while waiting yanno. I also get annoyed when they stand there after the transaction and write the check info in their checkbooks for record keeping.
I only use checks for bills, but today I used one for shoes because the little debit/credit thingy wasn't working.

What annoys me more than that is stingy ass people who demand the cashier go do a pricecheck on an item that rang up for $1.19 but was advertised for $1.09. I just want to take a dime and embed it in their ear and send them on their merry way.

That and I hate people who's grocery bill rings up to $100+ but wait...they have coupons totalling $.75.

HATE

I've done that before. Some woman at Staples was complaining because the pack of notebook paper she was buying was ringing up $.10 more than it should have. She argued with the cashier and demanded to see the manager. The cashier called the manager, and was going to ring up the keyboard I was buying while they were waiting for him to come up there, and this woman pitched a fit because I was gonna be getting in front of her. I rolled my eyes and waiting for the manager to get there.

He came up, she argued with him for a while until I got tired of it. I took a dime out of my pocket, slammed it down on the counter in front of her, and told her "Just pay for your paper... and get the f' out of my way." The manager's eyes got as wide as saucers... and he got quiet, the woman shut up, the cashier rang her up... and she left without another word. Once she was gone, the manager kinda smiled and chuckled.

I'm one of the people that pays for small quantities with a credit card...I just find it more conventinet, and it usually doesn't take longer than cash would.

I work the register in an Italian Deli and this happens to me everyday. It's not my fault you're paying $15.00+ for a pizza. Call Papa Johns if you want something cheaper. Same when people order cheeseburgers through the deli. Apparently they think we're burger king or something and should already have this stuff made before they get there.

Oh no, she'll write a check. And she'll take the extra time to write it in an eloquent cursive script, then write her phone number and license number at the top even though I just told her she doesn't need to. Then she'll want a receipt after I already cleared the register for the next transaction, so I'll have to go get the manager to key in the manager codes because starbucks has retarded safety policies. She will also have been standing in line for 5 minutes looking in the pastry case. When she got up to the counter, OOPS! She forgot to look at the menu and stands there slack-jawed for another 2 minutes deciding on a drink. Then she doesn't even order a damn pastry!!!

Working there filled me with rage. I get mad at everything now. I went to Michael's craft store with my mom, saw a really cheap looking fake pile of ivy thrown into a basket as an "arrangement" and got really angry. I started yelling something about people around here being just tacky enough to buy two and put them on their mantle, and I mean seriously whigging out. My mom got scared.

Retail will do that to you. I think the worse day I ever had was doing free giftwrap at Macy's before Mother's Day. I remember one woman made me rewrap her friggin gift three times. I just handed her the paper and told her she might enjoy doing it more herself and yelled "Next!" as politely as I could.

Or the people who never worked at all. Chaps my hide.....dangnabbit, goshdarnit, #@@$%%!!$ I used to get annoyed when somebody asked me if something looked good on them when they tried it on too. Seems innocuous enough, but if you ever say "no", watch the fur fly. My stock answer was, "Well, if you like it and it makes you feel good to wear it, that's what really matters.

My favorite retail story was when I was working at Circuit City. I never had an issue with having to wait on anyone to write checks. The ones that always got me were the ones who would sit and count exact change on Saturday when the store was packed.

My favorite though was after I had turned in my 2 week notice and I basically quit caring. We had those little signature devices where you put the receipt in and the customer had to write on the box. I had one customer that came in to buy a printer, wasted 45 minutes of my time showing her the most expensive ones we had, and she ended up buying a $60 HP. She payed with her credit card, and when I put the receipt in the thing and asked her to sign it, she refused. "Why not?" I asked. "I don't want to the CIA to have my signature," she replied.

I rolled my eyes and held back the REALLY smartass response. I just stood there stunned for a second and told her "Well don't worry, ma'am... this one is hooked to the FBI. The CIA's signature box is on the other end of the counter. Now, could you please just sign this thing so I can help these other customers."

After she stormed off and got the manager, I simply explained to my manager that I was working 9am-10pm... alone... with no lunch break.... and I had already turned in my 2 week notice, so I REALLY didn't care. "And for the record, this is exactly the reason I'm quitting this damn place... working 13 hours by myself because you can't make out a decent schedule." One of the managers from another department actually took my side in the issue, saying that she shouldn't have scheduled me alone knowing that I wouldn't be there but another week, and he really couldn't blame me.

Needless to say, a revised schedule was posted the next day, and I didn't have to work alone any more for the remaining week.

I write checks because I got rid of my check / debit card. That thing was like liquid cash and I got dangerous with it.

So now if I need to buy something big, I write a check. Everything else is cash.
