Default Why is the 12v connector disabled when the car is off?

Dear Subie Pals:

Unlike other cars that I have owned in the past, the 2003 WRX sedan's 12v power plug is disabled when the car is turned off. It will function if the ignition is in the 3/4 position, but not while off. Is this normal? Can I change the function so the plug remains hot at all times?

Please advise,

Thanks,

mRgUnn

its so that you dont accidentally drain your battery...say with a radar detector or any other accessory you put on it.

you can rewire it, but not recommended.

that is correct. And I prefer my radar detector (or other accessories) to turn off when I turn off the engine.
