Default Calling all JDM STI Engine (EJ207) owners!!

I'm trying to build up a database/table of the EJ207 engine codes for the new age Impreza. As most of you know, there are three model years in the 'new age' catagory.

MY01 - First production year, known as GxxA (i.e. GDAA, GDBA, GGAA, etc) Also called Version 7

MY02 - Second production year, known as GxxB (i.e. GDAB, GDBB, GGAB, etc) Also called Version 7

MY03 - Third production year, updated body sytle, twin scroll turbo on the sti. Known as GxxC (GDAB, etc). Also called Version 8.

What I am looking for!

I'm trying to map out the engine codes. The engine code can be found in two places. First is a small white sticker on the lower left passenger side of the black plastic timeing belt covers (front of the engine). The second stick is at the bottom back side of the drivers side head. You can see it from the top just a bit, and read it with a mirror (it is on the back side, just all the way down).

The Number on either sticker will look like:

EJ207DW3CR-xxx yyyyyy zzzzz

The yyyyyy is the block serial number, which is also stamped into the block on the right back top side, where it mates with the tranny. On the block it will usually be Byyyyyy.

So, could any/all of you with JDM STI or JDM WRX motors read this number and email/post back, also let me know if you know what MY it is. I'll keep the chart below updated with all of the info I can find! This will be VERY helpful for anyone who is considering doing an STI swap in the future.

Yep... Dave at Rallispec gave me a bunch of the info I already have... Just wanted to complete the table with every one elses input! I'm building a web page with all of this info, plus all of the other impreza model years for the US, UK, AUS, and JDM.

Thanks for the EJ25 STI info.. I actually just got the same info from an STI here, and it looked identical. The Model Code for the new STI is GDFCYEH (in other words, it is a GDF). Engine code for the new 2.5 turbo is EJ257!

Tom..
Did you get the model number from the list above, or from the car?

It appears the motor is an STI Limited, or an STI RA Spec C motor. You can decifer the codes as follows:

EJ207 = the STI 2.0 motor
DW = The market (domestic JDM)
4 = MY02
EJ = RA Spec C, or STI Limited (CR is the regular STI motor)

Based on the block serial number, it looks to be a late MY02 engine. That is a great motor, as the Spec C/Limited motor has more agressive CAMs then the regular JDM STI.

The model # is hand written in white ink on the timing belt cover on my motor.
I thought it was a bit odd that the model code corressponded to a regular ( non spec C ) sti but the engine code is for a spec C. I don't think I have a spec C motor becuase it has AC unless the sti Limited motors came with AC.
I believe I got my motor from same person as you did ( Marshall ). The factory may have mixed and matched parts for testing purposes only, so maybe I have a hybrid.

It is probably an STI Limited motor (which is the same as the Spec C). The Limited had AC as well.

The only way to know for sure is to take a valve cover off, and measure the lift of the CAMs. The Spec C and Limited have a bit more lift then the regular STI.

You are correct, that the motors from Marshal are often hybrids of some kind. The one I got from him was also an EJ, and sure enough, it has the Spec C cams, etc. It may be that the testing area all use the EJ series engines for testing. (NOTE, by EJ, I am refering to the EJ engine spec code, not EJ207, etc. The regular JDM STI Motor has a CR spec code)

I have a AC compressor setup from a 02 spec C...it is a smaller, lighter system than that of the Std. WRX.

Jeff, I've been tardy in reporting my data, but I'll post it here asap.
