Default Menlo Park/Palo Alto Area folks

Hi

As most of you know, I live in the city and work in Menlo Park. Between the wretched commute and the still outrageous San Francisco rents, I'm going both broke and crazy.

I think I may actually do something I swore I'd never do...

Move to the 650!!!

I noticed that there are a lot of nice looking apartments in the MP/PA area for $900-1100 for a one bedroom, which is considerably less than I'm paying in SF.

Is there anything to do at night down there? Or will I find myself driving to the city all the time?

DO you guys like it there? it sure looks nice, but I have no ideas what it's really like.

Anny help would be greatly appreciated.

Default mmm...

yeah, everything dies out before 11.

but still beats looking for parking every night - I lived in Nob Hill, now in Foster City. What a beauty - have a space for the car, a lake in front of the balcony, and a 20 min ride to work in Menlo Park.

But yeah, gotta drive to the city for fun.

To tell you the truth, I really don't go out that much anyway. Especially since most of my "fun" money goes to rent

Downtown PA is probably the only thing happening at night (pre-11 on weekdays) in the area you're talking about. Not sure what you like to do but if it's bars then you can always find a watering hole. clubs, not much except for a couple of small places. it's not the city in terms of excitment but a nice place to live.

I also work in Menlo Park on Sand Hill - and there really isn't much to do in MP besides work. I live in San Jose, and am planning to move to Mountain View to the Towers to be closer to work.

MP is pretty boring except for University Avenue being right there. Blue Chalk cafe!!

My grandma lives in San Carlos.....think we're seeing a trend

Not a ton to do, but as long as you're not in East Palo Alto, it's a nice area......

so what you're saying is that if I want to hang with the Grandmas, I should move to the Peninsula?

Look at it this way.

Its nicer to live down on the peninsula and drive a short commute to work. Then when you actually want to go have fun you do "your current commute" to the city at night when traffic = squat.

Added bonus: Skyline is closer, Mt ham is closer, You will go to Santa Cruz more often than you do as a city resident. (The 3 most important things as a peninsula resident)

And if you go to shows(As if anyone good still tours)Shoreline close by can be fun in summer months.(Mtn View priority ticket buying can be an added bonus on this subject)

Just my take.

(Live Mtn View > commutes over 237 for work.)When I go into work

the only thing to do around here is downtown palo alto. you're not gonna find any good looking girls out there, but you're also not gonna find many in the city either.

Hey will...if you want access to Stanford's limited housing searches...let me know and I will send you the pw. I've found all my places through there, it's low traffic but only NICE places where the landlords are looking for intelligent young professionals.

Just watch out for Menlo and Atherton police if your WRX is modded. They are the worst around here in my opinion. I had 11 tickets from them when I owned my Integra Type R (all fix it tickets) in a period of 2 months. I have yet to be harassed in my WRX, but I get followed all the time.
