Question How to beat a WRX.

I keep having this nightmare where I am being chased across a freshly waxed floor in my SVX by a pack of timberwolves driving WRXs.

-------------

The new WRX is said to have anything from 210hp to 227hp. And with simple chip/exhaust mods it will probably make even more HP. Does ANYONE have dyno sheets of a stock SVX? I recall KC claiming to have dyno-tested an SVX, but despite my requests and searching on thier site, not once have I ever seen one.

I plan on dyno testing my SVX on an AWD dyno. It would be nice to have a baseline or 3 to compare it to.

It's all good- the 'family car' is a 93 impreza wagon, and I've got the SVX too. Subaru makes excellent cars.
I'd love to try taking a WRX with the SVX- on the freeway, it would be interesting...

Yeah, off the line the SVX comes alive after 3000 rpms or so- the WRX will probably have the advantage due to being lighter... on the freeway, the SVX is a monster...I really think the WRX would have a tough time keeping up at extra-legal speeds.

Dont get me wrong, I love the SVX! I want a bright blue mettalic one. There are some gorgeous ones here in St.Louis. i never see them on the highway, otherwise I'd love to race one.......Your SVX would slaughter an RS at the top end.....down low, our lighter weight might have you....

WRX vs. SVX? No chance. The WRX will blow the SVX inside out. It takes off like a bat outof hell and weighs much much lighter than the SVX. The gap would be pretty big by the time the SVX gets some speed going. Why I am saying this? Well I was watching a video of some race b/t the WRX and some other sports sedans like teh IS300, Accord type r and the sylvia, the new WRX just took off as if the other cars were stalled or something! By the time it reaches quarter mile the gap widens to over a second!
As much as I like the SVX (sans auto) I think the WRX is in a class of its own. Also the new WRX has improved drag coefficient unlike the older models. In any case we're all in the same family and if the SVX came with a 5spd and lose the luxo stuff, I'd jump into one!!!
Well at least both cars ends with an X....

Yeah, I've seen that WRX video- its pretty fast, especially the launch. Off the line, there is no way an SVX is gonna be that fast- on the freeway though, the SVX is very very fast- from 60mph or so on up... and might give a WRX a run for its money. May be able to test that theory next spring, eh?

Your comment about "off the line" is true. But anyone who "drag races" an SVX against most any performance oriented car deserves the beating they will get (unless the roads are wet).

I agree, the time the SVX starts to really kick major tuckus, is about the time you start looking for smokey.

As the original SVX ads said:

"It goes so fast you'll get so many tickets that you will lose your license."

The ideal cruising speed in the SVX (not racing, just cruising) is about 20-30mph faster than the maximum speed limits in most states.

I love the SVX for what it is!!! An awesome GT car, plus its really easy to drive in commute traffic. Its 230 hp flat six. Full leather interior. Climate control. It really is quite nice. An automatic ain't all that bad either, especially in the overcrowded bay area roads.
My dream? A convoy of Subarus: SVX, legacies, OBS, RS, and WRX, just getting along. Of course the SVX will be the lead car

Thumbs up

Yup. I love the SVX the first time I saw it. It's like seeing a beautiful finely crafted gem from the rest of the rugged jewels. Cus the SVX is so different from your regular Subaru cars. So unSubaru like. I still find it hard to believe Subaru created such an aerodynamic potent car amidst of its frumpy hood scoops big wing flared arches cars.
