Thumbs down M2 Uppipe

Just installed and M2 up-pipe in a customers car today and i have to say oh my god how are you guys buying this crap?

first off it required that you remove the studs from the stock up-pipe which are self locking once they are in the stock one so it a pita to remove them. next i has an egt bung that does not work with the stock one and comes with no plug for the hole. so i welded a plate over it. next the up-pipe flange to the turbo is just made way off and the studs dont slide in like they should it pretty much needs to be beaten in. and last to top it off since there is no flex and the pipe isnt made to correct measurements the up-pipe leaked. needless to say the customer is now goin to buy ours and sell this usesless pipe to some other sucker that will choose the $100 pipe over the $300 pipe and will regret it in the end.

Yeah i know i may be biased because i work for autospeed but after haveing installed about 20 of Autospeed's up-pipes that fit flawlessly and have NEVER leaked it just amazes me how people are even buying this crap. In the last two weeks i have seen the m2 and 2 different hks pipes all had very simmilar fitment issues but the 2 hks pipes did seal ok which was ok.

sorrry just had to vent

I'm looking for an uppipe. I've done some research and it seems that not all aftermarket uppipes have the same diameter as the stock td04 turbo. In your experience, which uppipes share the same or closest diameter to the tdo4? It seems that there would be less turbulence that way.

thanks,
TILT

Tiltrite,

Our up-pipe utilizes 2.000" OD 304 stainless tubing. The ID is 1.875". The TD04 has an inlet diameter of 1.800" that means there is a 1/32" lip from being perfectly port matched. This lip is very small and barely detectable to the untrained eye.

For curiousity sake when we were developing our pipes we had "Port-Matched" several turbine inlets by removing the hot housing and using a carbide die grinding bit and chamfered the inlet edge to smooth over the small lip. Honestly I can say that there was no improvement felt on our calibrated butt dynos

But we have never done a back to back comparison on a dynojet to see if there were any measurable gains. I am not saying you shouldn't try and squeeze every last once of power, but I do think it will be marginal given the type of casting on the TD04.

Bottom line if you look at what we are trying to accomplish, you will find that the majority of new found power is coming from the removal of the precat and the smoothness of the piping design when compared to the OEM power robber.

If you need any more info please do not hesitate to contact us at 856.207.5941

I put an M2 uppipe in my car over a year ago. It came with studs, and had a plug for the tuning bung. It fit perfectly and there were no leaks after the install. I have never had a problem with this uppipe. Maybe I got one of the good ones.
