Unhappy Please help! Headlights go On and Off...

Hi,

I have a Subaru sedan, the model is Year 2000 Legacy L. It has been great and I am quite satisfied with it for over two years. But recently a strange problem happens now and then.

While I was driving, the headlights (both side) could suddenly go off for no reason, after a random time, could be half an hour or an hour, the lights come back on by themselves. I called a Subaru dealer, also went to a garage, to see if they could check things out. They told me it could be wire problems. but nothing they can do while the car works fine.

I am quite frustrated (the lights came back five minutes before I arrived the garage), I don't know what I should do. Any ideas? Anyone encountered such problem before? Please give me some advices. Thanks in advance.

Question what Kinda bulbs you using???..........

If your Using the--So called "HID" bulbs, there's a good chance that the high voltage could've melted/shorted your headlight wiring. The reason I say is because this happened to me, I was using the BLUE bulbs and then a month or so later, for no apparent reason my lights would stop working (for a minute to a day) and then just go back on. Well, Hope I could help .

Thanks for the quick response.

I still have the regular OEM bulbs, the ones came with the car. Not sure if it is the same problem as yours. I am thinking that maybe I should take one day off, drive around the dealer. Whenever it happens, I could have them to look at it. No sure it is going to work though. :-(

Just curious, how did you fix the ON/OFF headlights problem?

I just had the dealer replace the wiring, Although, if you are ever interested in using high wattage bulbs you might look into a HighGuageWire set. Apex has one for about 60 bucks, and I found it's about 60 to install it. It'll increase the current so the bulbs shine nice and bright.
