Ya, I read that before.
Funny thing is I sold a 2001 GTI VR6 b/c it was a real sway boat. They claim the R32 is solid and shows the least body roll. That simply can't be true. My WRX wagon and VR6 are worlds apart in the body roll department. The WRX, IMO is much more solid in the turns. The write-up is in VWVortex. They're going to claim the R32 is outstanding in SOME category. Truth is though, it can't touch the EVO or STI. |

I'd say so if you think the S4 was "king around here for years." How do you know the S4 was king? Have you DRIVEN every single production car sold in the United States? I'd say T33's post carries much more information and substance than your claim of the S4 being "king." |

Comparing an R32 to your GTI VR6, unless you've driven an R32, is pointless speculation.
That is all. |

I have an S4 and although it's faster than a WRX, wouldn't touch an STi. It was never king against a well driven E36 M3. The S4 does have some monster mod potential. Remember that it's essentially a 1.8T with an extra 2 cyl and 0.9L under low boost. There have been 500hp+ 1.8's for years. A chip alone will bring the S4 to 320. Upgraded turbos, etc can make it completely stupid.
I've driven every production car in America. That's why I built my Cobra.....to start into the non-production cars. ![]() jack |

![]() While the R32 is nice, it's not in the same type of mental ~rally car that the STi and Evo are - it's a bloated A4 Golf with more power and weight than any Golf ever really needed.. It's easy to make and market an "impressive" car when it's loaded up with bloat - I'd be more impressed if VW would make a fun, light, cheap, fuel-efficient car a-la the A1 and A2 GTI. The 125hp Lupo GTI 6-speed, 100hp 1.4 Polo TDI and 150hp PDTDI Golf would all fit the bill reasonably well, and it'll be a cold day in hell when we see any of those in the US. But I digress.. lb www.trancelab.com |

My observations are simply based on experience. NO, the R32 is not a VR6, and NO, the STI is not a WRX. But guess what-they share a whole ton of chit in common. I've owned and driven both and I'm through tellin ya - the GTI as it stands now is a piece of crapola. No amount of power/all-wheel drive/indigo blue lights and heated leather seats is ever going to make this car handle like an STI or EVO. The writeup was entertaining nonetheless...even if VW is 2 decades behind the competition. |

Have you ever considered that you could quite possibly be wrong?
In your 1st post (2nd in thread) you're saying things like, "It simply cannot be true that the R32 has less body roll than the STI. Here is why: My VR6 which has absolutely nothing to do with the R32 whatsoever and has 100% different suspension... has a lot more body roll than my WRX wagon which is like an STI that they tested." It's not last year's GTI. It's not last year's Golf. It's a 2003 3.2L VR6 R32 with AWD and a suspension never before seen in a VW. So, in the area you are targeting... handling... they apparently have NOTHING in common, let alone a "ton of chit". You have absolutely no idea what it can or cannot do because you have not driven it. You would like it to fail, and that is all. |
