Question tire sizes

Another great question for the masses. I was reading the FAQ over @ http://www.cars101.com/subaru_svx.html trying to determine what the correct tire size is. According to the FAQ, the standard tires are 215/50-16. But, everywhere I look, they recommend 225/50-16.

With that said, I believe that the 225/50-16's Toyo's that I am getting ready to replace are majorly rubbing, and I noticed that the inside of the tire is bald, about 2 inches or so worth of tire.

Any thoughts?

My car rubs in the back a little bit when the suspension gets fully compressed- I'm running 225/50/16s, but with aftermarket wheels with unknown offset and width, which may pooch the wheels out towards the outer fender. I dunno- there isn't any funny wear though. Maybe 215/50/16, tirerack has the KDW in that size?
