I am trying to get an alarm shop to install a remote starter in my STi, the Viper XV790...he was a bit hesitant for liability reasons given that all STi's come in manual. so i was wondering if any STi owners have already installed a remote starter alarm package in their cars and how did you guys go about by passing it? one wrx owner suggested this below but i don't know if his set up would be the same as ours....please let me know thanks:
"silver ghost, the reason your installer will not install a Responder (Viper 790) in a standard is because on almost all standard vehicles there is no way for the remote start to "electrically" sense where the shifter is. If you look at a diagram for the WRX's ECU you will find that there is a wire called the Neutral Position Switch that will show ground when in gear. Hooking that wire up to the hood pin wire on the remote start would prevent the vehicle from starting in gear (a remote start won't start if it sees the hood open...which is what it would think if in gear). Print out the Ultimate Alarm/remote start thread on this forum and get a wiring diagram of the vehicles ECU (located under the carpet to the left of the passenger side kick panel) from http://northursalia.com/modification...ng/wrxpin.html and bring it to some installers. The wire is in plug B134, pin 8 Most installers won't know about that wire unless they are Subaru nuts like us here, as few cars have one. Back to the main topic. Aladdin is junk...DEI products have always been very reliable. There seem to be a few occassional issues with the Responders, but nothing major."

STI's neutral switch is D9 (green/black) off B137 31 pole ECU Connector. You will need to hook up the Alarm's Hood Pin Input to this wire. I suggest installing a 1 amp diode with silver ring facing the Alarm between the Hood Pin Input wire and the Neutral Switch wire. This will allow negative to flow in 1 direction.
also... it's a good idea to either buy the 2004 Wiring System manual or download the entire set from techinfo.subaru.com netZ ![]() |

in addition to installing the viper 790xv onto the STI, ask the installer to hook up the 790xv's Neutral Safety Switch Input to the Parking Brake wire. it requires you to pull up the Parking Brake to allow Valet Take Over Mode and Remote Start.
