We are trying to get the headrests off the seats of my friends SVX. Any suggestions on how to do this? The headrests in his and my SVX seem to be permanently attached on one side.

CRZ, if no one has posted before I get home this evening, I'll try to look up the procedure in my manuals. Sorry so late.

IIRC the holes that the head rest supports slide into have small plastic covers--underneath one of them is a small lever made of stiff wire, which will relase the headrests if pulled.
The plastic covers don't move up and down you you may pinch a finger doing this. |

Why are you trying to remove it?

CRZ, I just checked the diagram in the manual. It shows no "fasteners" that should prevent you from pulling it out. The mentioned "clip" could be there, but not shown. Of course, the manuals show that you should be able to adjust your headrests 21 degrees, too, but, I've never gotten mine to tilt.

Thankyou gentlemen, We found the clip and managed to remove the headrest without chipping any nails
![]() As to why we want to remove it-- he plans to do something with it, but he won't tell me what. I'm in the dark on this too. ![]() I'll report when he fesses up. |

Hey aredub! The way you get your headrest to tilt (at least initially), is to get into the car, sitting on your knees on the front seat facing backwards. Grab the top of the headrest, and use your body weight to get it to move. It seems like once it's broke loose, it tilts easier by hand. It's almost as if some of them had never been tilted, and they're kind of frozen.
When I was looking at SVX's, I drove a 92 and noticed that the headrest tilted. When I bought my 93, it didn't tilt, and I just figured "oh well". Then I noticed that everyone kept talking about how they tilted, so I figured it was time to make that sucker tilt. Make sure none of the neighbors are around when you do this. It looks kinda silly!Rich [This message has been edited by richeich (edited February 17, 2001).] |

Rich, thanks. Since the only neighbors I have are cows, I should be able to tackle it without embarrassment
