Default AC question

Whats the 3rd pully on the blet that the ac is on? I misplaced my haynes book. Is it just keep the belt tight? or does it actually do something?

Thanks Jon

Jon,

Not sure what pulley on the "blet" means. Can you clarify?

blet" is east coast speak for "belt" common mistake... lol

If your belt(s) is/are sqeaking, check them for cracks and tears in the material. Twist them gently sideways and look at the running surface of the belt and the edges. If you see cord coming loose, or if there's cracks up inside the running surface, replace them... it's just a blet (j/k) waiting to break. If the belt/belts all look good, then try using some belt dressing (avail at you local auto parts store) on them to quiet them down. I'd only adjust them a fraction tighter so you don't prematurely overstretch/wear them out.

OTOH - is the 3rd pulley squawking or grinding? If so, you'll want to replace that before it 1) seizes and burns up your belts or 2) wobbles so much that wears out your belts. Either way, that's a must fix soon.

3rd pulleys is usually for alternator.. the small one.. is the tention pulley.. there should be screw right next to it so you can adjust it..

As mentioned, that little guy on the AC is just a tensioner.

Believe the alternator is just a bolt adjustment, while the AC has a pulley that rides on an adjuster track that uses a bolt to loosen/tighten the pulley against the belt and a lock/set bolt to hold that bolt in plate.

Br, Dale

edit: sorry didn't see the picture. It describes everything a ton better than I did.
