Default Dim light reversed in gauges

Ok so I put in my defi gauges finally and used the radio harness to tap into. it all works fine except if I brighten my dash lights the gauges dim.

Any idea on how to fix this?

Also when I set the dimmer about half way so the dash lights are equal with the gauges the power seems to drop on the gauges because the vacuum drops a little on the boost gauge and the others have blinking red lights (Dont have them hooked up yet) and the lights blink slower.

Well - the subaru dimming circuit is a little odd - there is a fixed +12v, ground, and a variable 0 to -12V - sounds like you grabbed the latter two - the variable goes from 0 (full bright) to -12 (fully dimmed)

If you have a mechanical gauge, you should be able to grab the fixed +12 and the variable (use as a variable ground), and get the proper dimming action.

most gauges expect a ground and a variable lead which goes from 0 to +12V

Hmm, the defi (Electrical) system uses both the fixed and variable 12v, there are hookups for both. (I do not know why)

And that is how I have it hooked up.

But dim is still reversed.

Thanks.

I don't have a defi electrical gauge, but from reading your post as well as some others, it seems that the gauge has three terminals. One for ground, one for fixed, and one for variable 12V. If this is the case, then there's not much you can do unless you convert the variable signal. As DrD suggested, the way the variable circuit in Subarus are wired are such that the ground is the floating terminal. Since the electronics require "true" ground, the lighting will not operate properly as you mentioned.

Actually, it varies from 0V (full bright) to +12V (fully dimmed).
