yeah at the Exeter/subaru drag meet

i think bad gas, cause i was running slower than usual, and it was a cooler day than i have ran the car at the drag... either way, whatever it was did it all the way.

Sorry to hear about your plight. I'd be interested in seeing the internals. The more I thought about your predicament after I left for the day, the more I'm beginning to think it wasn't bad gas.

Check my school of thought. Bad gas can equal predetonation. Predetonation places insane stresses on the crown and ring landing areas of a piston. Unless this is what happened to yours, causing the connecting rod to punch through the piston top, I don't think that was the root cause.

You had a connecting rod failure. Why would a cast connecting fail midway but prior to an aluminum piston? (Sorry, I do a lot of my thinking out loud.) Was the connecting rod a secondary failure? Maybe the piston shredded allowing the rod to **** against the cylinder sleeve, jam mid stroke, and receive an excessive side load. Hmmm.. I'd like to see the internals.

Where are you loacted?

Thanks,
Fitz

Thats REALLY strange... why would #1 fail so violently? What have you done to the fuel system? Is it a WRX setup with the regulator on the pass front of the manifold?

Rod before piston is usually an oil related failure.
