Default How do you remove the rear deck?

I just got my WRX and am going to tint the rear window (I already did the sides). I was wondering if anyone can give me some tips on removing the rear deck. I don't want it to get wet and soggy. And don't ask me to buy a repair manual as I just dropped a lot of dough on this car.

don't know about the rex, but I assume it's very similar to the GC8. www.scoobymods.com had a grea thread about it for installing the rear speakers, but I can't seem to get on it now, so I can just tell you how I did it in my car (again, not a WRX, but probably similar)

First I had to remove the rear seat, which was a few bolts underneath the bottom part, then once that was removed, a few bolts underneath the back part which then lifted off some hooks. The top of the deck is held on by a few little snappy peggy thingys. I pushed them through from the trunk, there was like 5 or 7 of those. Then (i had someone else help me with this), you have the lift it up in the middle, and pull it out from the sides. It's hard to do that without folding it, which would TRULY suck. I had my friend stick his arms completely underneath the shelf, about a foot apart, while I pulled the outside gently inwards. With a little work, it came right out. It was super simple getting it back in, as is usually the case with this stuff! Great time to put in new speakers if you're thinking about it too! Hope that helps!!!

I wouldn't bother removing the deck at all, both my brother and I had our cars tinted and the water evaporated in no time. Especially since we couldn't roll the windows down. In the sun the car heated up nicely and we scrubbed extra moisture by running the AC for a while. I don't recall ever seeing TMD remove the rear deck when he worked on a car, I'm of the opinion that it's entirely unneccessary.

In case you still want to remove the deck.

It looks like you need to remove the seats, brake light, c-pillar trim, center seat belt anchor bolts and the pop the clips holding the deck on. My opinion stands though, no need.
