Question Durable tire recommendations?

I need to replace the 205/55-16 tires on my wife's car. I want to stick with a V rated tire, but treadwear is more important than handling. We are in the desert, so heavy rain and snow are not issues here. Cheap is also good. Any recommendations?

Thanks, Doug

How much treadwear is acceptable? 280?

Lightbulb Good question...

My understanding is that the UTOQ value (did I get that right?) are really only useful for comparing tires of the same brand. What I would really like to know is what folks have run that lasted a long time in the real world and how the car was mostly used (ie. 35K miles, mostly suburban driving with some highway)...

Thanks, Dou

If you browse Tire Rack's "High Performance All Season" tires in your size, you'll find a bunch of decent, cheap tires that should last awhile. Some have treadware ratings of 400+...

I don't have any personal experience with any of them, but you probably couldn't go wrong with most, since it seems as though your standards are pretty low. (No offense intended)

You could also pick up multiple sets of RE-92's right off this board, for pocket change.
