Default Where to sell engine after swap? (00 2.5rs)

So I thought i was up *****s creek a few weeks ago in terms of money. After a string of bad luck ive had some really good luck. My plans have changed now because of that bad luck and I am now thinking about a WRX swap. This was my orginal plan waaay back when and I think I am going to do it .
If things keep going well id like to send my car down to Lachute late July and have them do the swap. The question is, what to do with the engine and tranny and how much will I get for it? Depending on how much I can get, i can do the swap sooner. I know I read that the Cesna people like our engines... who has had luck selling their RS engine to them and how much did they get? What should I look to get for my 2000 2.5rs engine in great condition with only 40k miles? Only reason Im taking it out is to put in the new engine. I just feel a WRX swap will be more reliable than a turbo and i can esily get more power from a chip and turbo back exhuast.
Also anyone know if LaChute will just buy it from me? Will they at least help me sell it (the engine will be there in Canada so i might have to ship it...)

So how much should i expect from my engine
and how do i sell it?
Thanks all

Private sales forum might work, even asking around in your area to see if anyone was interested. If you didnt live on the complete opposite side of the country from me I would have called dibs

I've seen aviation shops sell used EJ25's for $3,500 with over 30k on them and no ECU or wiring. Lachute won't give you much at all for the engine so it's probably not worth selling it to them unless you just don't want to bring it back down with you.

$3,500 **** no way! Ive seen WRX engines for $1000 already, no way anyone should pay nearly that much even if it is everything including

Anyway, going rate seems to be $500-900 for EJ25 longblocks right now privatly (Unless of course you are a vendor, vendors mark shiznit up so much its rediculous)
There are a few folks here who have actually done entire EJ25 swaps for that amount, but I dont think the engines were in that good of condition... I'd pay $800 easy for that one nick.

Trust me, airplane people are a whole different group. They have engine kits that cost more than our cars. I've gotten quotes for $3,500 when I asked how much a used EJ25 would cost. Plus $800 for wiring, ECU, and some other airplane gear part.

An engine built to aviation specs by an aviation certified mechanic, which is probably what you need will of course go for a lot more than an engine pulled from someone's car. I sold some of my EJ25 parts but they really aren't worth a lot. Right now my shortblock is sitting on the basement floor. I may build that up for the wife's car...

Where should I go to sell them to airplane people ? If i can get anywhere close to 3k for it, the swap i sgoing to happen A LOT sooner! Is there a website like NASIOC for them?

I figured more than 800 for the engine in great condition since it only has 40k miles. Id include the engine, drivetrain, ecu, etc. Everything that i take out for the swap.

Thanks guys

try some dune buggy and sand rail forums. i have a guy locally waiting to buy just my engine for 1000, so you should check that out as another viable option. also call around some shops that sell airplane ej25s.

I can't remember where to find aviation sites, but I just went on google and spent hours searching. I've had offers of $1,500 and $2,000 for just my engine with 20k on it within the last two weeks. eBay will probably also yeild better results as well. You have to understand that Subaru sites are bad places to try to sell certain things because we already have our own prices that kind of develop over time and are usually lower than what outsiders would pay . A plane builder in Florida told me he pays $3,000+ from junkyards for very low mileage EJ25's from junkyard wrecks. And prices in Florida are usually pretty low to begin with.

engine only? That's about what you can find them for. There's one in the classified right now, hasn't sold for a while at $800 obo. 43,000 miles, IIRC.

I'm not being an ass, I'm telling you how it is. Best of luck to you on finding more for it though. I have been wrong once before in my life. No...wait. That's not right.

Unfortunatly guys, we are not in the market for 2.5L.....

Any Chance you've got a 98 2.5 Phase II DOHC, the so called magic bullet 2.5? I think I've decided on it for swap into a 97 Brighton. Easiest, and strongest balance for a weekend project.

Well said, Subaru people are very cheap. I think that eBay or some other area like aviation or dune buggies is the way to go. I would definatly whore it around some and try to get the most you can for it. I was lucky and got 800 for mine but I also sold off a bunch of other stuff too so I didn't feel so bad about settling for that amount.

Out of curiosity, can you give me a rough estimate for the cost of a RS to WRX swap and a Tranny Swap. Looked at your website and would like to know about how much labor would be.

Thanks,
Ed

progi-

If I rememeber correctly, I saw another vendor doing it for $2000, which they claimed was $50 an hour, for 40 hours. Or wait, was that maybe just for the wiring?

Regarless, it was up there.

The Canadian dollar just got a little weaker. I believe it's $3,000 Canadian for that swap, the 2.5 to STi is $3,000 Canadian which is like $2,180 US right now.
