I see skylines have sroker kits to go from 2.6 to 2.9. They said that it made the boost come on much much quicker
I thought I would look in to this for the STI 2.5 Block. Since I want to swap the STI block in and some cams in my car. Anyone think a 2.5 could be stroked to 2.7? BTW whats the general thinking that a stock STI should be able to handle 325WHP? Since thats my goal. I wonder if the block can handle it. I wonder what safe boost levels will be? Where should I get cams? Since the heads on MY00 are suposed to flow should I just get a hi reving pkg if so from where? Is it necessary to have the heads ported and polished? Thanks Guys.

I've heard that those STi blocks are pretty weak, but I can't back that with evidence. :-/
Either way... the problem with Subaru motors is that they're limited to the distance between the deck and the crank for the stroke to take. You can't change it, and 79mm (2.5L stroke) is damned near the largest you can squeeze in there. If you could move the heads out further and make proper manifolds, you could add probably another inch to each side of the motor and that'd be very significant to being able to add stroke, or just add rod length. It'd be very close to the frame rails, though, which limits us even further. *shrug* Heh, how would you like to have to pull the motor to change the plugs because the heads are too close to the frame rails to get a wrench in there? ![]() |

Can I get a long block setup for $3500? I want a 0-60 of 4 seconds flat or lower
No need to go anyfaster than that![]() Last edited by cpu77; 06-22-2003 at 02:16 PM. |

8complex... Im glad you brought up that point, that was something i had never considered before.
My friend has a Honda B16 motor, he is getting a 2' Deck Plate put between the head and the block so that he can use longer rods... this motor has been in the works for months now. One of our concerns with it is that the hood wont shut after its in. I supposed he can always do some boydwork w/ his hood, but there isnt a good way of us movnig the frame out is there!??? he he, anyways good point. |

cpu77 - No, I think last time I heard, it was about $6k for a longblock setup. I guess the heads with the AVCS are damned expensive. Perhaps you can slap WRX heads on there, though... they're a bit less expensive and you should be able to do it for about $3.5k or so.
Unsung Boxer - Interesting... I've never heard of that, but I would have thought it'd have to be more secure then just a plate/block. I've actually thought about it with a Subaru and you'd just have to cut the top inch off a second motor and weld it in place, then make custom sleeves for the cylinders. |

They sure will. If the motor is an EJ series, they'll bolt up to it... and I've checked, that motor is an EJ257.
