My recommendation is to go out and listen to a bunch of subs and buy what sounds good to you. Also evaluate the type of enclosure you need because this significately effects the sub you should buy. Some things to think about are:

Sizing requirements(how much room do I want to lose)
Music you listen too.
What type of bass do you want??
Pricing.

All these variable effect the sub and enclosure you will get. My final recommendation is, DONT buy an awesome sub that requires 1000 watts rms to push it and run it with a 100watt amp.....this is just asking for problems.

thanks,
cg

Yeah... we really need a budget in order to make an educated recommendation here.

However, a noneducated recommendation would be the Alumapro 10. It's super efficient (IE, doesn't need a lot of power to make it hammer), is relatively inexpensive, and sounds GREAT. Try to find a dealer to take a listen.

my apologies...I'm looking to spend about 400 for the amp and preferably no more than 2-300 for the speaker. I already have a box with a plexiglass cover on one end and the hole for the speaker on the other. (taken from my old car) I had a POS kenwood tornado sub or something and a 400 watt koiiler amp but after hearing my friend's same exact box with a 600 watt (forgot the brand) amp and an eclipse sub, I began to persuade myself that I was running inadequately.

Ive got a CDT MS-100, alot smaller (magnet & displacement) than most of the other 10's out there, but I feel its just as strong musically and as a plus it only requires 150w rms.

I'm goin' with two 10W6's. I personally didn't think the W7 was worth the huge price jump, and to be completely honest, the W6 sounded a little cleaner to me.
